CityPoint Hotel

The three-pearl CityPoint Hotel welcomes guests with a bright and cheerful lobby, decorated with white-tiled floors and ceilings plus a glittering silver mosaic panel fronting the reception desk. This space is spotless and inviting, complete with several cozy couches in bright hues of orange and green that add a smart look to the otherwise minimalist space. The hotel is a perennial favorite among tourists for its great Lower Sukhumvit location, but guests should beware that some of the common areas have incredibly low ceilings -- there are signs everywhere warning visitors to watch their heads. On the whole, the hotel is a quiet spot, and the clientele are mostly couples and a few families who are looking for a simple but spiffy budget-friendly option in a vibrant part of town. 

Situated just off the major Asok intersection with Sukhumvit Road, this is one of Bangkok's busiest parts of town. Yes, there will be traffic around the clock, but it doesn't really get more convenient for a visit to the city than this hotel's location. The Asok Skytrain station is just around the corner (a three-minute walk) and Sukhumvit Metro station is a five minute walk from the hotel. The intersection is also home to popular Terminal 21, a massive shopping mall, and there is a massive selection of restaurants and bars in any direction. The beautiful Benjakitti Park is just a two-minute walk from the hotel, with a large lake in the middle and great paths for jogging and bicycling around -- it is one of Bangkok’s best green spaces. Further up the road, in total contrast, is the nightlife area of Soi Cowboy, full of hostess, go-go, and beer bars (it's a red-light district), and at night a vibrant market stretches all along Sukhumvit Road, with plenty of street food and vendors selling everything from one-of-a-kind toys to "Viagra." Budget an hour to reach either Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang Airports -- the trips may not take that long in the end, but traffic can be horrendous in Bangkok.

There are 54 rooms at the CityPoint Hotel, and they are divided into Standard, Superior, and top-end Deluxe Rooms. Design and decor are similar across the board. The look is sharp and simple, with light wood floors and a minimalist aesthetic dominated by white walls hung with Expressionistic Thai art and the occasional pop of color in Thai silk textiles in pillows and bed runners. Rooms are mostly spacious, though at 22 square meters (237 square feet), there are far larger entry-level rooms in Bangkok than the Standard Rooms here. 

All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, mini-fridges, air-conditioning, and electric kettles for making free tea and coffee. Like certain public areas in the hotel, ceilings in Standard Rooms can feel low. The Deluxe Rooms are nicer in that they have slightly more space and larger 40-inch flat-screen TVs. While the Deluxe and Superior Rooms are on higher floors, they still don't have much in the way of views, although all rooms do have large windows, allowing for plenty of light. Bathrooms are modern across the board, with white tile walls and black tile floors. Bathrooms have contemporary fixtures and hardware, with walk-in showers but narrow counter space around the sinks. Showers in Deluxe Rooms have triple-headed showerheads, giving them a more upscale feel. 

Like many mid-range hotels in this part of Bangkok, the CItyPoint hotel doesn't have number of features. There's a small, bright cafe where breakfast is served every morning. The free spread is simple and includes cereals, pastries, and breads plus fresh fruit and juices. There is no on-site restaurant for lunch and dinner, but there are tons of restaurants and street stalls nearby. Next to the restaurant, the has a small room with free computers for guests to use, plus a selection of newspapers. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
