Oyster Hotel Review

Landmark Bangkok

Scene

A grand and modern luxury hotel with well-designed common spaces

The 31-story Landmark Bangkok may look like a traditional hotel from its gray exterior, but once inside, the grand lobby, with its stained glass, is striking. Large, granite front desks, high ceilings, and black leather seating decorate the humongous area, with gold-colored elevator doors providing a luxurious touch. Coffee, tea, and free newspapers are also available. Club lounges include plaid carpeting and wood floors, comfy armchairs, and black leather office chairs with Apple computers. Large windows let in natural light.

From traditional Cantonese with lanterns and carved wood panels, to the simple outdoor terrace featuring white umbrellas matched to wood chairs with green padding, each on-site restaurant has a distinctly different style to match the cuisine. Relaxed and soft green bench seating decorates the Greenhouse coffee shop, while plaid carpeting, dim lighting, and world flags adorn the British Huntsman Pub. The Rib Room & Bar steak house has plush, contemporary seating in browns and reds, colored mood lighting, and exceptional city views, while the Atrium has wood floors, bright windows, and stainless-steel buffet tables.

With its wide-open spaces and long elevators, this hotel can resemble a cruise ship, but it does an excellent job of setting the mood and expectations of each shared area.

Rooms

Upgraded and updated with extras for Club/Premium Club rooms

Floor plans for rooms vary, depending on their classification, although most rooms offer wonderful city views. There are 14 different room styles, each with varying amenities. Club Floor and Premium Club Floor guests enjoy perks such as a free daily laundry/pressing service, late checkout, separate living and powder rooms, and discounts on food and business services, as well as access to the top floor Club Lounge.

All rooms have a modern design with floral prints and nature-inspired artwork, as well as leather furniture and excellent lighting. None of the windows can be opened though, but there are digital remotes for lights and curtains. Decor is neutral -- mostly different shades of brown -- with a mix of wood flooring and carpet. Coffeemakers, fully stocked minibars, with tons of snacks and alcohol, fill a small wood cabinet area, while free daily newspapers are on the desk and slippers and robes are in the closet. Air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs are standard.

Bathrooms have striped tan tile, countertops, scales, and lighted makeup mirrors attached to the walls. Frosted glass doors open to the walk-in showers, and some have rainfall showerheads. Upgraded rooms also have large bathtubs with TVs, bath toiletries, and dental kits.
