Bottom Line

The 18-room Lullaby Inn is a mid-range boutique set just off of bustling Silom Road close to the Patpong Night Market and red light district. The homey rooms are colorful -- with walls painted in attractive tones -- and offer modern amenities including flat-screen TVs, safes, and free Wi-Fi. However, most rooms do not have any windows or good natural light. This small property doesn't have a pool or a fitness center, but there is a small bar in the lobby. The nearest skytrain station is a 10-minute walk away. This property is a good value; entry level rooms here are similar in price to the nearby Silom City Hotel, but have more appealing style and decor.

Lullaby Inn

Scene

A mid-range, good-value boutique-style hotel with bright decor

At first glance, the Lullaby Inn looks like any another budget crash pad along the road, but this little gem of a boutique-style hotel has attractive interiors and details throughout that distinguish it from its neighbors, including carved teak wood doors to the thick wooden columns in the lobby. There's a modern-meets-classic vibe here, with a wood-carved diorama of scenes from the Ramayana standing alongside alcoves of modern orange-cushioned armchairs as well as a sofa with pillows made from textiles crafted by ethnic hill tribes in northern Thailand. A giant temple bell furthers the traditional vibe, while a set of colored handcrafted parasols up on the wall adds a sculptural, modern touch. The front desk is tucked off to one side, while the cozy all-day bar is set off to the other side of the room. A lot of effort has gone in to making the place homey and cheerful, and this pattern continues throughout the hotel, with the hallways decorated with lacquered rattan hampers and hand-painted cabinets, leading on to the artsy rooms. This property offers a stylish place to stay at value prices for plenty of couples, solo travelers, and groups of friends.

Location

Walk to night markets, Silom shops and bars, nightlife, and skytrain in 10 minutes

The Lullaby Inn is located just off of busy Silom Road, home to some of Bangkok's best nightlife and dining. While the hotel is not in the heart of the popular area and tourist zone, it only takes 10 to 15 minutes walk to reach the Patpong Night Market or its famous red light district, the city's main gay bars, and high-end shopping malls like the Silom Complex. In addition to the dozens of restaurants and bars in any direction (including the trendy eateries on Convent Road -- a 15-minute walk), there are also plenty of options closer to the hotel. The nearest skytrain station is a 10-minute walk form the hotel, at Chong Nonsi, for access to the rest of Bangkok. There are plenty of taxis and tuk-tuks in the area for other excursions. The airport can be reached from here in about one hour, depending on traffic. The Lullaby is on a leafy tree-lined street that has lots of traffic during the day, but the hotel is mostly quiet as only a few rooms have balconies facing the street. Some guests may find walking around the Patpong area to be a little too seedy for their tastes, though it's generally on most Bangkok visitors' must-see lists, and the offerings at the night market range from quaint souvenirs to Viagra of questionable provenance.

Rooms

Colorful rooms with fine wood furnishings and free Wi-Fi

The Lullaby Inn has 18 homey rooms with good overhead lighting and striking colors. While most rooms do not have windows -- except for a few with balconies -- they employ a cheerful color palette ranging from vivid orange to on-trend sage green. Rooms have white tile floors, contemporary art on the walls, colorful throw pillows on beds, and fine wood furnishings including desks and antique-style cabinets. There are also plenty of modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, and electric kettles, plus free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are spacious and clean, with white floors and walls plus walk-in showers. The Double Deluxe Room has two big beds and is suitable for families; the Deluxe Room comes with one double bed and one twin. Superior Balcony and Executive Balcony rooms have small terraces, but the terrace area cuts detracts from the rooms' overall size, and they aren't quite as colorful as the other room categories. Once the Ritz-Carlton is completed -- what will be the tallest building in Bangkok -- the balcony rooms will have great views of it, looking directly out and up at the tower. Bathrooms are spacious, clean, and simple, with white tile floors, white walls, small granite vanities, and roomy walk-in showers.
