Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit

This modern 29-story property was built in 2010 and attracts a range of international travelers from couples, honeymooners, group of friends, and corporate clients. Families also stay here as they are well catered for with facilities such as a separate children’s swimming pool. The hotel's lobby is a light, bright space with a glass front. The decor is modern, simple, and fairly neutral, in light shades of brown, cream, and gray. One side of the lobby has a seating area with brown tub chairs, and there's also a computer station for guests to use, and a small children's area with tables and chairs and a rocking horse. Traffic noise can be heard from the lobby, but the guest rooms tend to be quiet.

The hotel is located in the heart of Bangkok, where Sukhumvit Road becomes Ploenchit Road. The immediate area is known as Ploenchit/Lumphini, and is a popular upmarket alternative for those looking to be near Sukhumvit's wild nightlife, but not right in the middle of it. The streets all around are filled with corporate buildings, modern condominiums, shopping malls, and trendy restaurants, and the location is convenient for both tourists and a business travelers. The BTS Ploenchit Skytrain station is directly in front of the hotel, and offers easy access to Bangkok’s major shopping malls, including Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, MBK, and EmQuartier all within 10 minutes. The Central Embassy shopping mall and the popular Central Chidlom department store can both be reached on foot within five minutes. Sukhumvit Road between Nana and Asok comes alive at night with a mix of vibrant ex-pat bars and notorious nightlife plus a night market and street food. It all begins about a 10-minute walk east from the hotel. Historic sights like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho are not within walking distance, though, and take around 20 minutes to reach by car when traffic is good (which it usually isn't in Bangkok). Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airpor take 30 to 45 minutes to reach by taxi, though smart travelers will budget at least an hour to reach either airport.

The 370 guest rooms at the Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit are available as Deluxe, Superior, and Executive Twins, Doubles, and Kings. Suites are also available, and many rooms have great views over Bangkok. Rooms have stylish decor in neutral colors but with a splash of two bright accent colors, such as red and gold or lime green and electric blue. Furniture has simple, contemporary lines and an ashen wood-veneer finish, while floors are done in striped brown carpets. The abstract geometric-pattern headboards kick things up a bit, but overall style is straightforward. They are all spacious and light, with large windows -- some providing excellent city views. All rooms also have air-conditioning, free mineral water, bathrobes and slippers, safes, free Wi-Fi, minibars, electric kettles, and free newspapers. There are also smart TVs that have satellite channels. The contemporary, glass-walled bathrooms have a large, walk-in shower with rainfall shower head, a hairdryer, and stylish fixtures and fittings.

The hotel has three options for eating and drinking. The Square restaurant serves international cuisine and is open all day, offering both a buffet and a la carte meals. The breakfast buffet has an excellent selection of hot and cold Western and Thai options, but it's not always included in the room rate. The Dee Lounge and Beer Garden is the hotel’s lobby bar which also has an outdoor seating area. It serves snacks and freshly baked goods throughout the day and evening, as well as a wide range of hot and cold drinks. The bar also has live music in the evenings. The other option on-site is the pool bar where guests can order light meals like sandwiches and finger foods, as well as drinks. It has a good cocktail menu. The outdoor pool is a small but attractive area surrounded by sun loungers and parasols. It offers city views and there is also a small separate children's pool. The hotel also has a full-service spa with treatment rooms and a sauna, plus a modern fitness center. Business guests can make use of the business center and five meeting rooms, and there’s also free Wi-Fi throughout the property and free car parking.
