Bottom Line

The Woraburi Sukhumvit Hotel is a medium-sized, mid-range property best suited to travelers on a budget. It's located off of Sukhumvit Road on the infamous Soi 4, where Nana Plaza -- one of Bangkok's red light areas -- is in full swing at night. However, the hotel is far enough down the street to avoid the noise and party atmosphere. Rooms here are small and worn but have free Wi-Fi. Superior and Deluxe Rooms come with bathtubs and flat-screen TVs, a step up from the Standard category. Facilities are limited to a rooftop swimming pool, a bar, and a restaurant with a buffet breakfast (for a fee).

Woraburi Sukhumvit Hotel and Resort

Scene

Quiet, ultra-casual budget property with limited common areas including a rooftop pool with a bar

Although the Woraburi is just up the road from the red-light district of Nana Plaza, the hotel is surprisingly calm and quiet. The overall vibe is budget-friendly and casual, and the hotel doesn't get many families. Most guests go out to eat lunch and dinner, so the restaurant/bar downstairs is used mainly for breakfast buffets. The only other public area in the hotel, except for the lobby, is the swimming pool up on the roof, which also has a small bar area. The pool sees plenty of guests nursing hangovers during the day, but other than this, it's a pretty sleepy spot.

Location

At the quiet end of Sou 4 off Sukhumvit Road

The Woraburi Sukhumvit is located down Soi 4, a side street running down from Sukhumvit Road, a main artery in central Bangkok. Soi 4 is best known as the location of Nana Plaza, one of Bangkok's red-light districts, is located. Although the hotel is at a quieter part of the road away from Nana Plaza, the area can feel seedy at night. A free tuk tuk shuttle ferries guests from the hotel to Sukhumvit, which otherwise is a long and unpleasant walk. Sukhumvit is full of restaurants, bars, and shops and there's a BTS Skytrain stop that makes it easy to reach the rest of the city. The airport is a 25-minute drive without traffic (but can take upwards of twice as long to reach during busy times).

Rooms

Plain rooms with big mini-fridges and free Wi-Fi, some with tubs and flat-screen TVs

The Standard Rooms at the hotel are nothing special. They look a bit worn, although colorful headboards and bright cushions brighten them up a bit. They do come with big mini-fridges and electric kettles, but the bathrooms are plain and the tube TVs give them a dated feel. Things get better in the spiffier Superior and Deluxe Rooms, as both of these have bathtubs as well as larger flat-screen TVs. However, none of the rooms have good views, just windows without terraces that look out at neighboring concrete.

Features

Rooftop swimming pool with sunbathing terrace and bar

The Woraburi Sukhumvit's main feature is its small rooftop swimming pool with a sunbathing area. There's also a poolside bar, making it the most popular spot to hang out at in the hotel. The only other public area to be found is in the lobby, where there is a privately owned massage place and an Internet cafe. The ground floor is also home to Woraburi's Sip Bar/Restaurant, which serves up buffet breakfasts (available as an optional package add-on), along with Thai and international dishes and drinks throughout the day and evening. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
