Bottom Line

Auto Hogar Hotel is a modern mid-range property that offers a convenient location for tourists. The hotel has 169 guest rooms with chic minimalist decor, and many were renovated in  2013 to include city views and flat-screen TVs. The hotel is set on a busy street with lots of cafes and theaters, and there's a metro station within a minute's walk for easy access to Plaza de Espana and other major sights. The on-site Mediterranean restaurant has a street-side patio, and a buffet breakfast is available for a fee. While the hotel feels fresh and modern, it lacks such on-site amenities as a fitness center and pool, and guest rooms at the front of the property receive some street noise. But for the price, this hotel is on par with others in its class in Barcelona.

Hotel Auto Hogar

Scene

Simple and modern with a casual urban vibe

Set on a busy street lined with gray stone sidewalks and bike paths, the hotel feels bustling and urban, and draws a mix of tourists and business travelers. It is housed in two eight-story buildings made of white stucco with red-brick accents, and has a simple entryway with two potted trees at either side of sliding glass doors. The lobby is an airy contemporary space decorated with zebra-print couches, black-and-brown marble floors, white marble walls, and a glass coffee table supported by an iron sculpture. There is plenty of natural light flooding the room. Hallways are narrow and unadorned, while stairwells are bright and sleek, with black stairs and chrome handrails. The on-site restaurant, Cafeteria, resembles a casual diner, with mirrors, small black booths, and a lengthy chrome counter. Outside on the terrace, guests dine at simple patio-style tables beneath white umbrellas with views onto the street.

In all rooms, decor is chic and minimalist, with wood parquet floors, wood headboards, desks, and a mostly white-and-brown color palette with red accents. Cribs and cots for kids are available upon request, and all rooms have free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning.
