Oyster Hotel Review
Swanky hotel with posh bars and beautiful outdoor areas in the summer
The Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I has soaring, 16-story windows in its open, modern lobby, which was renovated in 2015 and 2016 as part of the hotel's Fairmont makeover. Posh lighting, lounge seating, and a small bar create a swanky vibe. The Copella Club is open in the evenings in the lobby and has a full bar and sultry, dim lighting. For a more exclusive experience, guests can book rooms on the Executive Floor, which has its own reception and restaurant with magnificent views. Drinks and snacks are served at the outdoor poolside bar in the summer under a spacious, vine-covered pergola, and the Garden restaurant serves a Mediterranean menu on a terrace. A beautiful garden has walkways with benches and peaceful spots for relaxing.
In the Les Corts District and close to tennis clubs
The Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I is outside the city center in the Les Corts District of Barcelona. The hotel grounds are large and located on Avinguda Diagonal close to tennis clubs, the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona, and the FC Barcelona Stadium. Both the airport and the city center are within a 15-minute drive from the hotel.
Non-renovated rooms are fairly basic, while renovated ones are super sleek
About half of the hotel's 432 rooms were renovated in 2015 and 2016 as a result of the hotel's transition to Fairmont ownership. These rooms have a super-sleek, mid-century-inspired look, with a color scheme of neutral tones and gray. Non-renovated rooms remain basic, with beige walls, blue wall-to-wall carpeting, and generic furnishings. They offer flat-screen TVs and stocked minibars. The bathrooms have somewhat of a luxe feel, with marble interiors, separate bath tubs and showers (albeit quite small), phones, and scales. Suites have much more space, with room enough for couches and dining tables. They come in a variety of decor styles and offer pretty touches, such as floral arrangements in some. The Executive Floor is convenient for business travelers -- it has its own reception area and concierge service, private lounge, and free printing, copying, and fax services. All rooms and suites have large picture windows and offer free Wi-Fi, but the signal can be spotty.

Highlights include the impressive fitness center, lovely pools, and extensive spa services
The fitness center at the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I features large mirrors and plenty of space, with free weights, exercise balls, and a variety of workout machines. The property also offers two lovely -- though small -- pools: one indoor and one outdoor. The one located on the hotel grounds is open during the summer, along with the poolside bar and Mediterranean restaurant that is in the midst of the hotel’s beautiful garden.
The hotel’s lobby -- part of the Fairmont's renovations -- offers a chic vibe, complete with live piano music, a bar, and retail shops. A cocktail bar and a restaurant serving seasonal cuisine can also be found inside the hotel. Ayurveda and aromatherapy services are available for a fee in the hotel spas.
