Bottom Line

The stylish H10 Casanova is a 124-room, four-pearl option in Barcelona's Eixample, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and cafes. The hotel is historic, but interiors are thoroughly modern, with a chic, contemporary look. The rooftop terrace is a treat, with a small pool and tapas bar, though it's only open in the summer months. The breakfast buffet is well-received for its variety, and the lobby lounge has live DJs on weekends. Rooms and suites are modern and bright, with suites adding classy touches like Nespresso machines, video game systems, and pillow menus. With a spa, small gym, and meeting rooms, this hotel has it covered, but travelers who prefer a more traditional finish could check out Hotel Barcelona Center -- though it is a little farther from the city center.

H10 Casanova

Scene

Historic building with fresh, contemporary style and a chic rooftop terrace

H10 Casanova is an attractive property that occupies a spacious corner plot on leafy Gran Via. The building was constructed in the 18th century, but has been renovated and kept in excellent condition. Grand wrought-iron gates welcome travelers into the contemporary lobby, where sunlight floods through the large windows. Decor is largely marble and white, though the front desk and bar are a vivid lime, and other shades of green in the cushions and accessories create a fresh feel. The building is arranged around a central courtyard, which has a serene air, and guests flock to the rooftop bar in the summer months, where they can cool off in the plunge pool or grab a cocktail. The chic style is on-brand for the H10 chain, and appeals to both business travelers and tourists, though guests tend to be young couples on the whole.

Location

In the Eixample, near the Universitat Metro station and a 10-minute walk to Plaza Catalunya

H10 Casanova is in Barcelona's Eixample, along bustling Gran Via. This is one of the busiest and most lively parts of town, and several cafes, bars, and restaurants are in the immediate area. It's a 10-minute walk to Plaza Catalunya, which sits at the top of lively Las Ramblas. Top shopping on Passeig de Gracia is just few minutes farther on foot, or buses run there from Gran Via Muntaner stop -- just outside the hotel -- with a transit time of around 10 minutes. Connections to the beach also leave from this stop, and take about 25 minutes. Universitat Metro station is a five-minute walk away, where trains connect to attractions such as Sagrada Familia in around 15 minutes. Buses can be picked up from Universitat to Gaudi's Park Guell, with a journey time of 45 minutes. It's a 20-minute drive to Barcelona El Prat airport, though it's easy to reach on public transport too. Features

Great rooftop terrace with pool and tapas, plus spa, meeting rooms, a popular breakfast buffet, and live DJs

Perhaps top of the list for features is H10 Casanova's seasonal rooftop terrace. It's a great spot with views over the city, shaded seating, and a small plunge pool. The rooftop bar serves cocktails and specialty gins --for Spain's beloved gin tonics -- and has a menu of tapas dishes. The top floor also houses a small fitness room, with a few pieces of equipment. There's a large breakfast room downstairs, and guests rave about the choices available, which include hot and cold options plus Nespresso coffee. Light meals and drinks are available in the lobby lounge, where live DJs play on weekends. There are two guest PCs and printing in the lobby.
