Sensation Sagrada Familia

This modern apartment block is in the upscale Eixample neighborhood. Everything about it feels fresh and stylish, with natural tones and subtle pops of color being the name of the game. We spotted plenty of guests taking advantage of the secluded rooftop terrace during our visit, which isn’t a surprise as it overlooks Sagrada Familia and offers lovely views of the surrounding city. The terrace also has a small outdoor pool and lots of little nooks for reading or relaxing. Given the relaxed atmosphere and generously proportioned apartments, it’s no surprise that this spot is popular with families, but it’s not uncommon for couples to pass through as well. 

Located in the Eixample, the hotel is in a prime spot for those who like living like a local while being near one of the world's must-see destinations. Iconic Sagrada Familia is just a three-minute walk around the corner, which is where a metro station of the same name can also be found. There are a number of local bars, restaurants, and shops to be found along the blocks heading in any direction. However, those hoping to walk to the atmospheric Barri Gotic will likely need to hop on the metro, as it's a bit far. Expect a 20- to 25-minute journey to that neighborhood, which borders Las Ramblas and is near trendy El Raval and El Born. For the beach, it's a 15-minute bus ride. Budget up to an our to reach the international airport by mass transit, though the journey can be completed in about 25 minutes by taxi.

The hotel has 32 apartments, ranging from one- to four-bedroom layouts, with the larger units housing up to eight guests. All apartments are similar in style, with hardwood floors, cozy-making rugs, and colorful artwork. Splashes of color are seen in accent walls -- in kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms, for example -- and in accessories, such as throw pillows and bedding. Some rooms have small terraces or Sagrada Familia views. Furniture is sleek and modern, with white chairs, tables, and TV stands, and moleskin sofas in earthy tones. All units have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, safes, well-equipped kitchens with dishwashers and Nespresso machines, washer/dryers, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are classy, with over-sized tiling from floor to ceiling, modern fixtures and fittings, and large mirrors. All have walk-in showers, while larger units also feature tubs (and some have second bathrooms). Keep in mind that there are extra charges for daily housekeeping. 

Sensation packs in some great features, with its rooftop pool and terrace being the highlight. The views across Sagrada Familia are nice and the space itself is well-designed. The pool is small, but there are sunny and shaded loungers, and chairs and a table. A sauna and modern fitness center are also free for guests to use. Breakfast is available -- for a fee -- and can be taken on the terrace or in the dining room. There's no bar or restaurant in the property, but there are numerous options for dining and drinking nearby. The front desk is open most of the day, and staff is happy to assist with booking tickets, excursions, and airport transfers. Bicycles can also be hired here. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and parking is available for a fee.
