The Silken Diagonal is a stylish 240-room hotel that offers good value for a four-pearl property. Located outside the heart of Barcelona, the hotel is near public transportation and Sagrada Familia is within walking distance. An attractive rooftop pool and terrace (that often gets rented out for parties) has a bar that serves food. Rooms are sleek and modern with sultry glass-enclosed bathrooms (suited for singles and couples or friends with little modesty). While the hotel does offer free Wi-Fi, upgrading to efficient, business-level Wi-Fi costs an extra fee.
Scene
Dark and sleek with metallic accents
The lobby is dim and sleek with dark wood and a ceiling covered in brass and silver discs. The hallways are similarly dark; rounded futuristic chairs give the common areas a space age-y vibe. The roof deck is the highlight of this property, with a small pool, attractively landscaped lounge area, and bar.
Location
Outside the city center in a business district
The hotel is located on the busy Avinguda Diagonal, across from the gherkin-shaped Agbar Tower, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. The neighborhood is a very modern business district with a shopping center (full of restaurants, cafes, and shops) right across the street. While not in the city center, the Glories metro stop is just down the street and guests can get to La Rambla by metro in about 30 minutes. Sagrada Familia is a 20-minute walk away.
Rooms
Modern and chic with semi-private showers
The 240 rooms and suites at this hotel have a modern design with white walls and dark wood accents. Blown-up black-and-white photos of flora are attractive art pieces above the beds. Standard rooms have glass enclosed semi-private bathrooms with a thin screen providing some privacy in the shower (a feature couples may like, but others complain about). The suite bathrooms are more private and include soaking tubs and separate stall showers. All rooms have small flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and hairdryers.
Features
Rooftop with pool, terrace, and bar
The highlight of the hotel is its rooftop with small pool, terrace, and bar. The pool is often the setting of private parties. Tecla Coffee serves a breakfast buffet and lunch. The Piano restaurant serves Spanish cuisine for lunch and dinner. A parking garage is open 24 hours a day.
