Hotel Astoria 7 is a fun upscale boutique hotel with a prevalent cinema theme in its guest rooms and public spaces. The location isn't the most ideal for exploring the old town center of San Sebastian, but the 15- to 20-minute walk is safe and pleasant along a river. La Concha is about a 20-minute walk. Sala7 serves traditional Spanish cuisine while the snack bar is like a small cafe with a tapa of the month and an extensive wine selection. Contemporary, comfortable rooms have movie-themed decor.
Scene
Lights, camera, action: movie theme
A seated statue of Alfred Hitchcock outside restaurant Sala7 is just one example of movie paraphernalia found throughout Hotel Astoria 7. The walls are tastefully lined with photographs of iconic celebrities. Even screen-savers on desktop computers are images of "Indiana Jones" movie posters. Move past the film decor and the hotel has a contemporary design style with lightwood flooring, gray and white paint, and soft gray sofas where guests can peruse art and movie books.
Location
Outside the old town of San Sebastian
While the hotel's location isn't super convenient for exploring the old town of San Sebastian or hitting the beach (expect a 15- to 20-minute walk to either destination), the neighborhood is quiet and pretty with nice residential homes and a scenic river view. Expect to pay for parking.
Rooms
Celebrity themed with contemporary furnishings and some private balconies
Each room at Hotel Astoria 7 is dedicated to a different celebrity, complete with life size photos of said star hanging over the bed. Hardwood floors, colorful sofas, and cheery curtains with geometric circles add a youthful and contemporary atmosphere. The single room bathrooms have two glass walls. Private balconies may be worth the upgrade for the outdoor space, but they look worn. Wine glasses and a corkscrew are a convenient touch.
Features
Restaurant, snack bar, and fitness center
Public features at Hotel Astoria 7 include a gourmet restaurant (though expect a charge for breakfast unless you book a package deal) and snack bar with tapas (called pinxtos in this part of Spain) and bottles of wine. In keeping with the movie theme of the hotel, there's a projector and DVD library for guests to use, along with two desktop computers. Free coffee and tea are presented for early departures.
