Bottom Line

The 105-room Stormont Hotel is an upper-middle-range property located in a residential area of east Belfast. All of the spacious, contemporary rooms feature flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and electric kettles, but there are no in-room mini-fridges or minibars. The hotel's on-site upscale restaurant, La Scala Bistro, is a favorite with locals -- especially its Sunday Brunch -- and the cocktail bar is popular for afternoon tea. There is ample free parking and free Wi-Fi is available in all areas of the hotel. With extensive conference facilities and large, bright lounge areas, this is a popular pick for business travelers. For a contemporary hotel centrally located in Belfast, travelers could consider the Jurys Inn Belfast.

Stormont Hotel

Scene

Modern hotel with excessive purple accents

Located on a main road leading to Belfast city center, the Stormont Hotel is housed in a nondescript four-story building with a huge adjacent parking lot. The lobby area is bright and spacious thanks to its high ceilings and tall windows. Purple is prevalent in the decor of the hotel's public spaces: The lobby is filled with violet-colored carpets with spiral designs, the seating areas are made up of purple velour-covered sofas and plush armchairs, and the stairwell is also covered in purple carpeting. The large lobby area features a grand piano, with live music often playing at Sunday brunches and special events. Public spaces are neat, tidy, and well-maintained, and the residential area -- with floor to ceiling windows -- provides another bright place to lounge. The on-site restaurant and cocktail bar is very popular with locals, and evenings and weekends can be quite busy. And overall the hotel is popular with business travelers utilizing the conference facilities and couples on weekend city breaks.
