First Flatotel International

The First Flatotel Internacional is a contemporary, affordable property in a quiet location outside central Benalmadena. The modern, minimalist look incorporates a black, red, and white color scheme, with lots of polished marble, clean-lined furniture, and silver accents. Many guests use the property as a base for exploring the region, but while on-site, they're generally found lounging next to the relatively small pool. The atmosphere is largely subdued, although bachelor and bachelorette groups often come here and can add noise. Views of the sea are excellent from several areas, but maintenance issues and poor-quality food weakens the value of the First Flatotel Internacional. 

The hotel's removed setting may be a pro or con for some. While it's location a 10-minute drive from Benalmadena proper affords tranquility, there's almost nothing of interest within walking distance and transportation is required to reach sights. There is, however, a small and rocky beach just across the street, reached via a long set of stairs. Some guests prefer to walk about 15 minutes to Luna Beach Club for sand and drinks. There is a bus stop just outside of the hotel, making traveling to nearby cities easy: Fuengirola is a 30-minute ride; Torremolinos is a 40-minute bus journey; and Malaga is just over an hour. Malaga Airport is 20 minutes away by taxi.

Guest rooms are modern and minimalist, done in a mostly grayscale color scheme with pops of either red or navy blue in throw pillows and small artwork. Some decorations vary, but expect white marble flooring, simple Ikea-style wood furniture, white walls, and leather seating. Triptych photos of the hotel's view or pillows with photos of buses add some character. While many rooms have balconies with dining sets and sea views, some lack terraces. All rooms have air-conditioning, closets with safes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Lower-category rooms have mini-fridges, microwaves, and electric kettles, while others have full kitchens with stovetops, coffeemakers, and cookware. Sleek marble or slate-gray bathrooms have rainfall showers, free toiletries, and hairdryers. Note that some travelers have complained of maintenance issues and evident wear. Also be aware that cleaning is only provided every three days. 

The main feature at the First Flatotel Internacional is its medium-sized outdoor pool set in a well-maintained deck. There are loungers under palapa-style umbrellas, but they're a bit limited for the size of the hotel. Also out here are a tiny kids' play area, table games, and a bar for snacks and drinks.The hotel does have a full restaurant serving buffet-style meals, but food receives poor reviews for both quality and temperature. An indoor game room and spacious fitness are also available, though equipment is a bit old. Wi-Fi and on-site parking are both free.
