Bottom Line

There are 360 suites at this four-pearl property set within a large holiday complex. It’s a stylish, family-focused hotel with lots of facilities on-site, including a spa, playground, game room, and four restaurants. The suites are huge, with two bedrooms and a living area, plus a large bathroom and balcony. Many guests stay here for the excellent beach club, which has a water park and sports courts, and is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. It’s not ideally situated for access to sights and nightlife, though, as it’s a 20-minute drive from Benalmadena and Fuengirola. Those traveling without kids may prefer Holiday Hydros -- a more romantic property in the same complex.

Holiday Village

Scene

Family-focused hotel with contemporary style

Part of a complex of holiday resorts along this stretch of coast, Holiday Village Hotel is one of the more contemporary mega-resorts on Spain's Costa del Sol. The lobby of the hotel is impressive, with an enormous atrium and huge wood and glass structures that make guests feel as though they are inside of a giant contemporary pyramid. There is attractive and comfortable rattan furniture set out around a central water feature, and an ATM, vending machines, and tourist information leaflets lend the place a true family-holiday vibe. The resort is fairly large, with a huge selection of dining options on site, as well as a massive pool with a kids' area. The majority of guests here are British, to the extent that some staff speak little Spanish but fluent English. Most are families traveling with young children -- couples looking for a tranquil, romantic get-away will want to look elsewhere.

Location

Fairly isolated, set between Benalmadena and Fuengirola

As a self-contained resort amongst a complex of other resorts in Spain's Costa del Sol, Holiday Village is fairly isolated from any surrounding sights or activities. It’s located between the towns of Benalmadena and Fuengirola, and is a 20-minute drive to both. Most guests who stay here rarely leave the resort during their vacation, if at all. It’s not too difficult to get around, though, as there’s a taxi stand and a bus stop right outside the hotel. The property shares the beach club facilities with the other hotels in the complex, but Holiday Village is located closest to it, so it’s just a five-minute walk from the property, whereas those at other hotels need to take a shuttle bus. It takes 25 minutes to drive to the Malaga Airport from the hotel.
