Bottom Line

The two-pearl, 112-room Hotel Perla Residencia isn’t anything fancy, but it attracts a young, hip crowd -- including many bachelor/bachelorette parties -- looking for budget-friendly accommodations near the beach and party scene. The central location is convenient, a five-minute walk to the beach and surrounded by bars. The outdoor pool, cafe and bar, and English pub definitely add to the hotel's appeal, and freebies include a breakfast buffet and Wi-Fi. Rooms are quite basic and bathrooms show their age, but they’re fairly clean and are outfitted with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and terraces, but no in-room coffee- and tea-making facilities or mini-fridges, plus use of safes incurs a fee. Travelers interested in a place that’s less noisy might want to check rates at La Caseta Apartments.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hotel Perla

Scene

Contemporary hotel with a no-frills style and young, rowdy clientele

Hotel Perla Residencia is situated in a bland building surrounded by bars, hotels, and restaurants. Though the interior features contemporary decor, the gray floors, gray desk, and dated orange armchairs read as a low-level chain hotel that hasn’t received a makeover in years. The rest of the hotel has the same no-frills style. The cafe and bar is made up of black and red plastic chairs, glossy gray floors, and little to no decorative pieces, though it's well lit by floor-to-ceiling windows. It also has outdoor seating on a tiled patio furnished with woven chairs and red tables. By contrast, the attached English pub has a traditional look with a wooden bar, high tables with stools, neon lighting, and banners of UK flags. It’s also partially open-air and offers multiple pool tables, TVs, and a stage that hosts risqué live performances of the adult variety. The pub, combined with cheap rates, attract a young, rowdy crowd filled with bachelor and bachelorette parties as well as young couples on vacation.

Location

Within walking distance of the beach, bars, and dining options

Though the hotel is not located directly on Levante Beach, it’s only a five-minute walk away. It’s in a great location to explore bars and restaurants on surrounding streets, such as the next door Rose & Crown Sports Bar, which has early morning hours. The closest bus stop is a five-minute walk away. Though it’s not a family-friendly hotel, those with kids can take advantage of a nearby outdoor children’s play area with games and inflatable play zones. The Church of San Jaime is a 20-minute walk away, as is the Balcon de Mediterraneo, a great ocean viewpoint. Terra Mitica, an amusement park, is a 15-minute drive. It’s a 40-minute drive to the nearest airport in Alicante.

Rooms

Basic rooms with flat-screen TVs, AC, and terraces -- but safes cost a fee

The rooms at Hotel Perla Residencia feature simple, contemporary decor that's fairly basic, with little decorative elements beyond neon green accent walls. The gray bed covers and streamlined blond wood furniture make for a drab atmosphere, but guests don’t seem to mind since it’s clean. Rooms range from Single to Triple Rooms and include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and terraces, but there are no mini-fridges or coffee- and tea-making facilities, plus safes incur a charge and TV remotes must be obtained from the front desk for a fee. Prepare for loud nights, as there have been complaints about noise from nearby bars and neighbors who party. Bathrooms are basic and are starting to show their age. Some have a bit of grime around the edges, but they're generally clean. They include marble sinks, shower/tub combos, bidets, and toiletries, though no hairdryers.
