Bottom Line

The 205-room Coppid Beech Hotel is a largely dated, mid-range property located in Bracknell, about a 30-minute drive southwest of Windsor. Rooms are done up in old-fashioned, floral decor, but they come with flat-screen TVs, kettles, desks, and free Wi-Fi. Meeting rooms and proximity to the headquarters of big-name companies make it convenient for corporate travelers, while a well-sized indoor pool and packages showcasing area attractions like Legoland give it family appeal. Other features include a small spa and modern gym, a pub with live music acts, an all-day restaurant service local cuisine, nightclub with a resident DJ, and a more casual bar. The late-night scene may cause some noise issues. For something in the general area that's more charming, consider the 14th-century Bird In Hand Country Inn.

Coppid Beech Hotel

Scene

Lively hotel with old-fashioned rooms, late-night music, and meeting spaces

The four-story Coppid Beech looks like a supersized chalet with a swooping porte-cochère grafted on; that might initially seem to be an odd architectural choice, but the hotel was erected by the same developer responsible for the John Nike Leisuresport Complex, an adjacent year-round skiing and skating facility. The alpine theme reappears in the lobby with triangle shapes in light fixtures and the reception desk’s wooden inlays. Unfortunately, the property feels more dated than charming, with patterned carpets in teal and mauve, floral decorations, and faux-leather armchairs. On the upside, the location and meeting rooms, indoor pool, and variety of late-night dancing and drinking options make this property well-suited to business and leisure travelers. Expect to see families, corporate groups, and stag and hen (bachelor and bachelorette) parties, which may be a con for some.

Location

Near Bracknell offices and within a 25-minute drive of major sites

This hotel sits on the leafy edge of one of the planned “New Towns“ that evolved rapidly in Britain during the mid-20th century. Bracknell is now a tech center (Dell, HP, Vodafone, and more have offices here), plus it’s home to the headquarters of the huge Waitrose supermarket chain. It's a good location for business travelers, while leisure vacationers are less likely to be drawn to it as the town isn’t a sightseeing destination in its own right. However, it does boast a few family-friendly venues, including Coral Reef Water Park and Look Out Discovery Centre, and it's a 20-minute drive from Legoland Windsor Resort. Windsor and its eponymous castle are about a 25-minute drive away, while the Ascot Racecourse is 15 minutes away by car. London, accessed via Waterloo Station, can be reached in just over an hour by both train and car. Heathrow Airport, meanwhile, can be reached in 30 minutes by car or an hour via public transit.

  • Three-minute walk to John Nike Leisuresport Complex

  • 20-minute drive to Royal Ascot Racecourse
  • 22-minute drive to Legoland Windsor
  • 27-minute drive to Windsor Castle
  • 28-minute drive to Marlow
  • 30-minute drive to Henley-on-Thames

Rooms

Comfortable, spacious rooms with old-fashioned decor and kettles, but no fridges

Guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, albeit done up in an old-fashioned style consisting of wall-to-wall patterned carpeting in either mauve or beige tones, mauve floral-print headboards, and wave-motif bedspreads in the same hue. Traditional wood furniture includes desks, bedside tables, vanities, and tables in some. Small floral artwork adorn the walls. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, tea- and coffee-making facilities, free mineral water, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, but no mini-fridges or safes. Some units add private balconies and separate living spaces. Straightforward bathrooms have shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries.
