The budget hotel's rooms are individually decorated by local artists, so you can choose to stay in the Marilyn Monroe or the Vincent Van Gogh room; some do have shared bathrooms, though, and accommodations are relatively basic in substance. Arty budget hotel with quirky design
The Arte Luise Kunsthotel is geared towards tourists who are on a budget and want to stay somewhere a little different from the norm. The arty feel of the place is evident as soon as you step inside, thanks to the large, modern painting behind the front desk and the huge colorful tapestry covering one wall of the lobby. There are some quirky touches in the public spaces, including gumball machines, artistic posters, and quotes on the walls in the stairwells. Some areas feel minimalist and modern, whereas others are a little dated, such as the carpeted corridors with lots of exposed wood. The building itself is historic, dating to the mid-19th century, and the contrast with the modern art aesthetic demonstrates the investment the artists put into the hotel.

In the center of Berlin and yet in a fairly quiet neighborhood, the Arte Luise Kunsthotel is pretty well located. It's a short walk to Brandenburg Gate, the Tiergarten park, and the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, and there are lots of places to grab something to eat or go for a couple of beers nearby. Buses to Tegel Airport run from directly outside the hotel and take around half an hour, and the city's main train station is also in easy walking distance. The drawback of this is that there's some train noise at night.

The hotel's 48 rooms are individually decorated by local artists, so, unless you choose one specifically, it's a real lottery. The Beach Room features sand, sea, and clouds painted on the walls and the front of a large red horse coming out of one wall. There's also a Marilyn Monroe room, with the actress's silhouette painted on the wall behind the bed, a skirt that billows when the closet door is opened, and bedside tables painted as Botox ads. Rooms are divided between the original building and the 2003 addition, and there are no elevators. Some rooms have private bathrooms while others share bathrooms. Rooms are generally pretty sparsely decorated, and although all have free Wi-Fi, not all have flat-screen TVs. Train noise is a problem in some rooms, and earplugs may be provided.
