Berlin Marriott Hotel

The sophisticated Berlin Marriott Hotel is situated in a 10-story rectangular building with a cream-colored and glass facade that was built in 2004. A spacious atrium-style lobby makes up the center of the hotel and features lots of small lounge spaces marked off with red patterned carpeting or wood floors. A mixture of wood, beige, and brown leather armchairs and couches are arranged around coffee tables. Tripod lamps with wooden legs add a trendy touch to the space. The reception desk features hanging half-globe gold pendant lights that pair well with a black marble floor. The hotel gets quite busy, so guests may need to wait in line during peak hours. While the decor here is mostly straightforward with a neutral color palette, it's also tasteful, clean, and classy. This hotel aims to please a variety of clients with its wide range of convenient amenities.  

Situated on a busy main road between the southeast corner of the Tiergarten and Potsdamer Platz in Berlin's bustling Mitte district, the Berlin Marriott offers an exceptional base for exploring the city. Most of the popular sights and political institutions are located within the Mitte district, especially around Unter den Linden, Berlin's tree-lined boulevard, about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. A plethora of shops, restaurants, museums, and attractions -- like Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, and the Topography of Terror -- are all within walking distance. For other areas of the city, the Potsdamer Platz U-Bahn and train stations are about a four-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms at Berlin Marriott Hotel are tasteful and clean with neutral decor. They feature tan and white walls, beige upholstered chairs, contemporary carpeting in narrow stripes, and dark wood furniture. Beds are accented with velvet pillows and headboards are outfitted with silver reading lamps. While perhaps a little generic -- this is a chain hotel -- the overall look is still tasteful and sophisticated. Rooms are air-conditioned and feature floor-to-ceiling windows. Beds come with pillow-top mattresses. All rooms include desks with chairs and built-in outlets, small sitting areas, and 27-inch flat-screen TVs with premium channels. Rooms also include safes, iron and ironing boards, coffee/tea service, and generously stocked minibars. Even the entry-level Standard Rooms (also called Deluxe Rooms) are quite spacious, with 344 square feet of space. Bathrooms feature black-and-white tiling, large sinks with stone counters, and spacious standing showers with rainfall showerheads and glass walls. Bathroom amenities like hairdryers and toiletries are provided.

A major complaint for guests staying in non-executive rooms is that Wi-Fi costs an extra fee (though it's still free for Marriott Club members). Upgraded rooms may have extra features like iPod docks, robes, and slippers. Executive-level Rooms come with free Wi-Fi and access to the Executive Lounge, which includes a free breakfast. The hotel's suites measure from 678 to a whopping 1829 square feet for the Capital Suite, which includes a whirlpool, bathtub, dining table, and extra rooms. 

This Marriott has a range of services and property features geared toward both leisure travelers and business guests. On-site dining and drinking options include the chic and casual Midtown Grill, which serves American fare like steak and seafood for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Children's menus are available as well. A daily breakfast buffet offers lots of variety, including pastries, egg dishes, and fruit, but it costs a pricey extra fee. The trendy Bar CATWALK looks out on the street and features an underlit bar, plus couches for lounging. Live DJs sometimes play music there and lunch and dinner are served. There's also a lobby bar, which is more casual and serves specialty coffees in addition to drinks. The lobby has plenty of seating areas, and there's a small library-like Smokers Lounge. Room service is offered 24 hours.

Guests staying in executive-level rooms have access to the 10th-floor Executive Lounge, which has excellent city views in addition to free food and drinks, including a nice free breakfast spread, plus free snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, and dessert. Business services are also available here, and in a little business center in the lobby which features sitting areas and computers for guest use. Wi-Fi costs extra for those who aren't Marriott Rewards members or staying in a high-level room. 

The hotel has a pleasant 24-hour fitness center that includes treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, weight machines, and free weights. There's also three infrared seats and an indoor pool (some guests note it's a little cool, particularly for kids), but there isn't a spa. Water and towels are provided. The hotel has a 13 meeting and event rooms, including a grand ballroom that can host up to 650 guests for weddings and events. 

The hotel has a 24-hour front desk and a concierge who can arrange currency exchange, laundry service, limo service, and more. Rollaway beds cost an extra fee. Parking is available, but costs an extra fee. The hotel is pet friendly (one dog only), and this also costs an extra fee.
