Bottom Line

The 238-room Generator Hostel Berlin Prenzlauer Berg is a vibrant chain hostel popular with a younger crowd. Backpackers and other groups of young travelers are attracted by bargain prices, a bar with happy hour specials and dancing, and a beer garden where guests can barbecue. The hostel has both private and shared rooms that are clean but small and don’t have Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant on-site that serves a limited breakfast and dinner for a fee. There's another Generator hostel in Berlin, Generator Berlin Mitte, which is closer to the city center and feels a touch more modern.

Generator Berlin Prenzlauer Berg

Scene

Lively hostel with bright decor, popular with young travelers

The Generator Hostel Berlin Prenzlauer Berg has eight floors of rooms and a big parking lot that can accommodate the buses that groups of young travelers sometimes arrive in. The lobby has playful decor including polka dot benches and a pop art mural, and room doors are painted bright blue. Far from quiet, the hostel has an outdoor beer garden open in the summer for guests to barbecue some food and mingle. Inside, there’s a restaurant with a cafeteria-style line and metal tables and chairs. There’s also a circular bar with panoramic windows where guests can enjoy happy hour or dancing into the night. The atmosphere is young and relaxed, but can be noisy.
