Bottom Line

The 226-room Titanic Comfort Hotel Berlin Mitte is an upper-mid-range property with an enviable location in the city center. There's not much in the way of amenities, and some of the rooms are as small as ship's cabins, but the rates are competitive for this caliber and the cozy bar here is open all night. There is also a bright breakfast restaurant with a Mediterranean buffet. The stylish lobby has two computers for guest use. Even cheaper rates can be found next door at the BEST WESTERN Hotel am Spittelmarkt, but travelers interested in bigger rooms should check at the Mondrian Suites Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

TITANIC Comfort Hotel Berlin Mitte

Scene

Contemporary chain inspired by the infamous luxury liner

The Titanic Comfort Hotel Berlin Mitte was built in 2011 as part of the AYG Group's move into Berlin lodging (the company already operated numerous restaurants in the city, as well as restaurants and hotels in Istanbul). Like the rest of the Titanic hotels, this one is designed around a theme inspired by the doomed luxury liner, though the result is less ambitious here than in other properties in the chain. The contemporary interiors, softly glowing front desk, and the vaguely nautical curve of the lounge's front window don't scream theme decor, but photos inspired by the ship can be seen throughout the hotel. The overall atmosphere is comfortable and modern, though tight quarters in the rooms might not suit all guests.

Location

Centrally located in the Mitte district

Titanic Comfort Hotel Berlin Mitte is in a quiet location near the center of Berlin. It’s walking distance to Checkpoint Charlie (a former Berlin Wall crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War) and the Jewish Museum. The popular Gendarmenmarkt is about 10 blocks north, with a wide variety of restaurants and bars nearby. The Spittelmarkt U-Bahn is just a block away, and Alexanderplatz is only a 10-minute subway ride. Berlin Tegel Airport can be reached in under an hour on public transportation, or in about 20 minutes by car.

Rooms

Small and contemporary rooms with basic amenities and sharp bathrooms

The 226 air-conditioned rooms all feature pictures of the Titanic integrated into an otherwise neutral contemporary decor. Pale blue and brown accents bring a touch of color to the carpets and curtains, whose gently swirling patterns invoke ocean waves. The furnishings are sparse and serene, with just a bench and stool in the cramped standard rooms. Each has a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall with free Sky satellite channels, and an electric kettle, but no coffeemaker or minibar. Business and Superior Rooms add a bit more space with a desk and chair. The compact bathrooms have tiled walk-in showers. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Features

Breakfast restaurant, sidewalk patio, 24-hour bar, and business center

There's no full eatery on-site, but the hotel's breakfast restaurant serves a nice spread of breads, fruit, sausages, cheeses, and hot options such as pancakes, eggs, poultry, sausages, and potatoes. The swanky lobby bar stays open around the clock with a snack menu, and seasonal outdoor seating is available on the sidewalk under umbrella-covered tables and couches. A 24-hour business corner in the lobby has a pair of Macs and a printer for guests to use and the hotel has a bright, modern meeting room that can accommodate as many as 110 people. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
