Bottom Line

The 233-room Country Inn is a mid-range chain option conveniently connected to the Mall of America by a skybridge (there’s also a free shuttle). Most guests are families who want to shop, and family-friendly rooms sleep up to six and feature microwaves and mini-fridges. Past guests have reported damp odors in the bathrooms and inconsistent housekeeping. The free breakfast gets rave reviews, and a TGI Fridays and IHOP are on-site. Two indoor pools, two whirlpools, a 24-hour gym, and laundry facilities round out the features. Other perks include mall discounts and free round-the-clock coffee and cookies -- plus free parking, a free 24-hour airport shuttle, and reliable free Wi-Fi. Downtown Minneapolis is about a 15-minute drive away. For something closer to the city center, consider the Hilton Garden Inn Minneapolis Downtown.

Oyster Hotel Review

Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Bloomington at Mall of America, MN

Scene

Bright chain hotel with a fireplace in the lobby

There’s nothing particularly country-like about this Country Inn hotel, but it’s a solid choice for both families and business travelers looking to be close to the Mall of America. The six-story property has bright interiors, and there’s a homey feel to the lobby. The space includes a contemporary wood-fronted reception desk, and sofas and armchairs face the modern fireplace and stacks of logs. Wide hallways are lined with impressive gallery-style photo displays. The breakfast area is more functional than attractive, but blue cupboards and displayed china look pleasant. Outside, the small garden with a fire pit and bench seating is a nice touch. Many of the guests here are families and groups who are in town to shop at the adjacent Mall of America.

Rooms

Generic decor with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges

Generic room decor features wooden accent panels and and contemporary furniture made of cheap materials. Beds are given a dash of style with wood barn panels behind olive-green headboards. Red armchairs provide additional seating, but clash with the color scheme. Floor lamps, wall prints, and heavy, gray floor-length curtains add interest to the rooms.

Most rooms have two queen-size beds, and family-friendly Double Queen and Hospitality Suites sleep six people. Suites add separate living rooms with stone-colored leather sofa beds. Hospitality Suites have eight-seater dining tables with brown-leather-backed chairs.

Amenities include air-conditioning, heating, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, phones, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, microwaves, Cuisinart or Keurig coffeemakers, hairdryers, and irons and ironing boards. Business Class Suites add bathrobes and yoga mats, and DVD players are available to rent, but there are no in-room safes (there’s one at the front desk). Past guests have complained about inconsistent housekeeping.

Attractively muted bathrooms, with neutral floor and wall tiling, have handsome dark-wood vanities featuring chic modern white countertop sinks. However, we noticed some damp odors during our visit. There are a mix of large walk-in rainfall showers and shower/tub combos with older fixed showerheads -- some rooms have both small soaking tubs and separate showers. Miniature toiletries are by Pantene.
