Bottom Line

The three-pearl Moroccan Luxury Suites is a superb small bed-and-breakfast housed in a late 18th-century townhouse that features exquisite interiors with a Moroccan flavor. The historic Charlestown location puts it within walking distance of the subway, Bunker Hill, and USS Constitution. There’s no restaurant or other property features apart from a courtyard patio and lobby parlor, but the hotel delivers a tasty breakfast to rooms in the mornings (continental for most rooms, hot make-yourself breakfast in one room). The three guest rooms are sumptuously appointed with fine art and antiques, most from Morocco, and all rooms come with flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, kitchenettes or kitchens, and free Wi-Fi. The nearby Constitution Inn is a bigger, more conventional hotel attached to a YMCA with a pool, but it lacks the gracious character, distinctive rooms, and free breakfast found at Moroccan Luxury Suites.

Moroccan Luxury Suites Boston

Scene

Intimate, elegant bed-and-breakfast with Moroccan feel, housed in townhouse from 1799

Moroccan Luxury Suites is housed in a townhouse built in 1799 of Neoclassical design, with a brick section and a wood building painted a vivid lapis color with fuchsia-colored doors. The sumptuous interiors are filled with art and artifacts gathered from the owners’ travels in Morocco, and fresh flowers add to the allure. Guests gather in the gracious lobby parlor, which feataures sofas, a wood-burning fireplace, Moroccan rugs, vases, and marble-topped table. The outdoor garden patio (open in the warmer months) is another spot for rest and relaxation, with trees, flowers, and a small pond with a fountain combining to create a serene atmosphere. The inn draws mostly well-heeled couples for its intimate and romantic feel, warm and friendly service, superbly detailed interiors, and Charlestown location within walking distance of Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution. Prospective guests should note the owners generally request a two-night minimum stay.

Location

Charlestown location near shops and dining, a five-minute walk from Bunker Hill

The Moroccan Luxury Suites is located in a residential section of Charlestown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Boston. The area is filled with historic buildings, and shops, restaurants, bars, and a supermarket are within a short walk. Main Street is a half-block away, and the Main Street at School Street bus stop is a two-minute walk. The Bunker Hill Museum and Monument are a five-minute walk, and the I-93 freeway is a five-minute drive. The hotel is a five-minute drive, a little less than 10 minutes by bus, or a little less than 15 minutes on foot from the area with the Charlestown Ferry, Charlestown Navy Yard, and Boston National Historical Park with the Revolutionary War-era USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”). The Community College subway station (Orange Line) is a little less than a 10-minute walk, and North Station with its trains and subway lines is a little more than 10 minutes by subway. Rooms

Three sumptuous, colorful, individually decorated rooms with iPod docks and DVD players

The three spacious guest rooms at Moroccan Luxury are individually decorated and have a visually dazzling aesthetic, with fresh flowers, leather and silk-upholstered furniture, wood flooring, and hand-picked art and antiques from the owners’ travels. Rich colors of turquoise, scarlet, pink, plum, green, and blue fill the rooms, and some rooms feature elements like hanging lanterns, oriental rugs, Swarovski crystal chandeliers, Balinese mirrors, Indian inlaid marble tables, Moroccan silk pillows, and Berber-crafted beds of carved cedar wood and silver. Amenities are plentiful: a flat-screen TV, DVD player, iPod dock, and free Wi-Fi are standard. Two rooms have a kitchenette with mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker. The Moroccan Luxury King Suite features a full kitchen with a sink, oven, and four-burner stovetop. Bottled water, coffee, tea and snacks are provided, and Moroccan sweet orange water is provided for guests to refresh their hands. The comfortable beds are dressed in down duvets and cotton-rich linens. Two rooms have fireplaces (one is wood burning, the other is bio-fueled), and the Salem Court King Suite features a private balcony. Bathrooms are spacious, feature skylights, and come with organic bath products, eco-friendly cotton towels, Turkish bathrobes, and hairdryers. Two rooms have showers and no bathtubs.

Features

Free breakfast delivered to rooms, outdoor courtyard garden, and lobby parlor

As a bed-and-breakfast property, Moroccan Luxury Suites has few features. A free breakfast is delivered to rooms, and it’s earned praise from previous guests. Since the Moroccan Luxury Suite has a kitchen, guests staying there receive hot items like eggs and sausage to cook for themselves, plus croissants and other cold fare. The other rooms get baked goods, yogurt, and fruit, and all rooms receive coffee and juice. A courtyard garden is open in warm weather, and the hotel also has a lobby parlor where guests can sit and relax. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, and the staff also offers use of a computer and printer for urgent situations (but not extended use). The owners aren’t always on-site, but they are available by phone to field guest requests. There is no parking, but a public parking garage (for a fee) is about a five-minute drive from (and 15-minute walk back to) the inn.
