L’Agapa – Hôtel, Restaurant & Spa NUXE

L'Agapa Hotel SPA Nuxe, which dates back to the 1930s, is situated in a beautiful granite and glass building with black trim that create a stylish grid pattern -- a pattern that's repeated throughout the hotel. Inside, sleek but understated black-and-white decor offers a modern look inspired by classic Art Deco design. Grid and windowpane patterns are a common theme, from the lobby carpeting to bathroom tiling in guest rooms. But perhaps what is most astounding here is not the decor, but the architecture, which makes use of the hotel's elevated, seafront position to offer exceptional views of the beach, water, and town, from panoramic windows in the restaurant, pool area, and some of the guest rooms. Guests should note that the hotel is spread among three buildings, which include the main building, where most of the rooms and amenities are, and two annexes, which house upgraded rooms and suites. Most guests are couples on romantic getaways, though the property's kid-friendly features draw some families as well.

L'Agapa Hotel is perched atop a hill along the beach (Plage de Trestraou) in the small seaside commune of Perros-Guirec. The area is famous for its rocky pink granite coast, and guests of L'Agapa get a prime view from this elevated location (though the walk down to the beach is steep). A small handful of restaurants and shops are situated along a main road about a five-minute walk from the hotel, though this area is more of a leisure retreat than a nightlife or shopping destination. Nearby attractions include Ploumanac'h lighthouse, Trégastel aquarium, and planetarium de Bretagne, each about a 15 minute drive from the hotel. Lannion - Côte de Granit Airport is also about a 15-minute drive, while Guingamp railway station is about 40 minutes. Free parking is available on-site. 

Polished and understated, guest rooms have a modern beige, black, and white color palette featuring the same signature grid-pattern seen throughout the hotel. It pops up here in the light wood tables, dressers, and black chairs. Headboards are illuminated, and many rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the garden or sea. Chic black-and-white tiled bathrooms are spacious, with combination showers and tubs, toilets and bidets, and heated towel racks.

Rooms include sitting areas, wardrobes, and small work desks, plus flat-screen TVs, safes, motorized drapes, and free Wi-Fi. Amenities also include kettles for coffee (upgraded rooms have Nespresso coffeemakers) and minibars, which are stocked with free drinks like soda and seltzer but lack anything alcoholic. Bathrooms have scales, robes, hairdryers, and NUXE individual toiletries. 

Guests should note that rooms are not all situated in the same building: The main building includes 33 entry-level L'Agapa rooms (connecting rooms are available), while the 10 superior La Desirade rooms and a suite are situated in an annex, and the final suite, Eden Roc, is located in a second private annex.

Despite being a relatively small hotel, L'Agapa offers the kind of amenities guests expect from a luxury property. There's a small bar, plus a fine-dining restaurant offering panoramic views of the sea from expansive bay windows. The hotel serves a daily breakfast buffet, but it costs an extra fee.

There's also a nice full-service spa with 10 treatment rooms, a sauna, a hammam, and a fitness center, though the latter feels like an afterthought with only a handful of cardio and weight-lifting machines tucked into a corner. The main event here is the pool and hot tub -- though they aren't huge, they're situated in a room with skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows, plus an attached terrace with sea views. Private steps take guests down to the beach -- the trip's a little steep -- but the upside is that the perched position means there are some great views from the hotel itself.

The property has meeting and event rooms and a small business center with a few work areas and a computer for guest use. Wi-Fi throughout the hotel is free. For guests traveling with children, there are kids' menus and high chairs, plus cribs and childcare are available for extra fees. On-site parking is free. Staff offer standard luxury services like concierge service, laundry service, and 24-hour room service.
