Bottom Line

The historic Grand Hotel Casselbergh Bruges is a spacious and charming hotel with an amazing downtown location. It’s within walking distance of restaurants, shops, public transportation, and attractions. The property is full of character and includes original, historic touches such as fireplaces and exposed wood beams. Rooms are big and quiet with antique details and beautiful, modern bathrooms, but some rooms pick up street noise and in rooms with vaulted ceilings, the wood beams can be a touch low. There is free Wi-Fi, on-site parking (for a fee), an excellent breakfast at the restaurant, and a wellness center that offers massages.

Grand Hotel Casselbergh Bruges

Scene

An elegant, upscale, historical hotel

Created from three historical residences (Casselbergh, Zeven Torens, t Fransch Schildt) and one new building, the Grand Hotel Casselbergh Bruges has exceptional character from huge marble pillars in the lobby to large chandeliers in the ground floor rooms. The luxurious hotel bar includes dark wood, classic plush chairs, and a historic fireplace while the rest of the hallways and main areas present original wood beams and impressive paintings. Although the advertised library is lacking books, the furnishings are colorful and the area is bright. An on-site breakfast restaurant is airy and open. Even though this hotel is located downtown, it has a luxurious, comfortable, and quiet atmosphere.

Rooms

Large rooms with historic details, minibars, and modern bathrooms

The rooms at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh Bruges successfully mix modern and antique to create a comfortable, upscale space. Beige is accented by red traditional floral patterns on the bedspreads and curtains, while cozy yellow armchairs provide a pop of color and extra seating. The comfy beds receive great reviews and the minibars are well stocked; coffee- and tea-making facilities and flat-screen TVs are present as well. Huge original beams and gorgeous chandeliers decorate some rooms, but the beams may sit too closely to some beds. The canal and other historic buildings can be seen out of some windows, and all bathrooms are modern and include L’Occitane toiletries. Walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads and separate tubs add to the opulence of the hotel while the black countertops give the otherwise tan area some color. Rooms are large; some rooms may receive street noise at night.

Features

On-site breakfast restaurant and bar, plus fitness, wellness, and business centers

A fitness center housed in 14th, 16th, and 17th century cellars has comfortable relaxation beds, lots of room, and palm trees, but there are only a few machines. An attached wellness center (advertised as spa) includes marvelous tile throughout and the sauna and steam bath are large, though show their age; massages are also offered here. The 24-hour business center is small but filled with classic, deluxe furniture and there are many updated meeting rooms with modern amenities. A beautiful, contemporary breakfast restaurant receives exceptional reviews and the bar and lounge include soft, high-quality furniture. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the Grand Hotel Casselbergh Bruges and there are concierge services; however, there is no room service and there is a fee for on-site parking.
