The mid-range Boutique Hotel Victoria Budapest faces the Danube, offering panoramic views of the river and the Parliament building on the opposite shore. Small shops, restaurants, and bars make the immediate neighborhood pleasant and lively, and many historic attractions are within walking distance. The 27 rooms have sharp, modern decor and rainfall showers. Most have postcard-worthy views from floor-to-ceiling windows, though less expensive rooms in the rear of the hotel lack views and also can't be accessed from the lobby. The hotel also has beautifully restored historic meeting rooms and a small sauna, and serves a free buffet breakfast. Just up the street with similar views, art'otel Budapest has comparable rates and its own restaurant, though no free breakfast.
Scene
Intimate boutique hotel with a modern aesthetic and lots of natural light
For an older building with such a small footprint, the Boutique Hotel Victoria Budapest is filled with a surprising amount of natural light. The ground floor has a wall of windows looking onto the Danube. The upper facade, angled on each side, protrudes a few feet over the sidewalk, giving each floor panoramic views through their floor-to-ceiling windows. The small lobby has leather chairs and couches with faux-wood accents and sculptural lighting. Even the front desk gets bathed in glowing light at night thanks to the tiny, well-lit lobby bar next door outfitted in mid-century white leather chairs, a long white bar, and avant-garde sconces. The airy breakfast room is similarly sleek and comfortable, with punchy yellow chairs, high ceilings with artistic pendant lights, and geometric-patterned banquettes.
Location
In downtown Budapest, on the Buda side of the Danube river
Located in downtown Budapest, this hotel is directly across from the Danube, convenient for sightseeing in the medieval part of the city. It's within walking distance of the Szechenyi Chain Bridge and the Fisherman's Bastion, and Buda Castle is only an 11-minute walk away. There are a good number of shops, restaurants, and bars in the lively surrounding area, though they can be expensive and touristy. Public transportation stops along the street right outside the hotel. Budapest Airport is about a 30-minute drive away, or just over an hour via public transportation.
Rooms
Large and modern, with panoramic river views for some rooms; back-facing rooms lack views and lobby access but are significantly cheaper
The Hotel Victoria's rooms are split between two sides of the building, with the less impressive options in the back requiring a separate entrance; however those rooms are around half the cost of rooms in the main hotel. Each of the main building rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Danube River, and most are actually corner rooms with panoramic bay windows, with the extra views facing either north or south. The earth-toned decor consists of olive-colored wall-to-wall carpets, streamlined wood furniture, white armchairs, and glass tables. Beige-tiled bathrooms are small, with either walk-in rainfall showers, or shower/tub combos. Rooms accessed from the rear of the building lack river views and cannot be entered through the lobby, but they have the same amenities at a much lower rate.
Features
Restored century-old meeting hall, lobby bar, free breakfast buffet
Despite the hotel's thoroughly modern decor, there is a beautifully restored historic section in the back, with three event rooms, including Jenő Hubay Music Hall, which is more than 100 year-old. The restored hall hosts everything from chamber concerts to corporate meetings, as well as the free daily afternoon tea for guests, and there's a small wood-paneled salon that's specifically ventilated for smoking cigars. There's no full spa or gym, but there is a small Finnish sauna with attached showers. The petite lobby bar and adjacent breakfast room serve a free buffet breakfast with eggs cooked to order. The hotel also has its own parking garage to help alleviate crowded street parking for a fee. Wi-Fi is free, and there's a small business corner.
