InterContinental Hotel Buenos Aires

Montserrat, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina

The InterContinental is a beautiful upscale hotel that attracts numerous business travelers due to its location near government buildings, but it's a great choice for families as well. Every detail of the hotel impresses, from the open marble lobby to the pristine spa to the spacious rooms. Rooms are understated and sophisticated, featuring dark wood furniture, large marble bathrooms, and 32-inch flat-screen TVs; rooms with two double beds are available, as are cribs. Families will likely appreciate the chic indoor pool, and the hotel also features a popular international restaurant, two bars, a gorgeous spa, and a huge, modern fitness center; unfortunately, accessing those facilities requires an additional fee. Though some feel that the Montserrat neighborhood is not particularly tourist-friendly (it can get eerily quiet on weekends), the InterContiental is a top-notch choice for families in the area. Babysitting services can be arranged upon request.

The 173-room Sofitel is a luxury option in the Retiro neighborhood, sitting on a tree-lined street within walking distance of several sights as well as the Retiro station. The stately lobby makes a striking first impression: It has a high glass ceiling, black-and-white tiling, and elegant chandeliers. Rooms are also stately, with attractive artwork, thick curtains, marble bathrooms featuring separate showers and tubs, and classic blue and gold decor -- but some may find the look a bit staid. Rooms with two single twin beds as well as multi-room suites are available; cribs and babysitting services can be arranged. Due to its location and its numerous meeting rooms, the Sofitel attracts a lot of business travelers, but families can be very happy here, too -- especially considering the hotel's attractive pool and restaurant. The only thing missing is a spa.

Hotel Madero

Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina

The 197-room Hotel Madero is in the beautiful, recently developed Puerto Madero neighborhood, full of trendy bars, restaurants, boutiques, and upscale condominiums. The hotel reflects the chic, luxurious surroundings, with sleek decor (unique pieces of artwork, sophisticated color schemes) and a laid-back ambiance. Bright, spacious, and tastefully furnished, most of the rooms feature nice amenities such as private balconies, minibars, iPod docks, and work areas; cribs, connecting rooms, and suites with sofa beds are available. Wi-Fi is offered for a fee. Families will likely appreciate the heated indoor pool, which has a rooftop location and an outside terrace with lovely views of the area. The free breakfast buffet includes hot Argentinian specialties and pastries, and Red Resto & Lounge serves local and international dishes. One downfall, though: It’s difficult reaching other parts of Buenos Aires without a car because the hotel isn’t close to any subway stops.

Fierro Hotel Buenos Aires

Palermo Viejo, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina

Located in the trendy neighborhood of Palermo Hollywood, the 27-room Fierro Hotel Boutique is a chic and upscale property that stands out for its luxe touches such as towel heaters and free loaner iPads. All rooms are spacious suites with modern furnishings, comfy beds, balconies, and high-tech amenities such as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. Though there are no rooms with two double beds, the hotel does offer cribs and babysitting services. The bathrooms have rainfall showerheads, but lack tubs. Highlights include the rooftop terrace with heated, outdoor pool and renowned restaurant run by acclaimed chef Hernán Gipponi, who uses ingredients plucked from an organic garden on the property. Plenty of restaurants, bars, and clubs are also within walking distance.

5

Palermo Place

Palermo Viejo, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina

The Palmero Place is a great kid-friendly pick for two main reasons: Its rooms with kitchenettes, and its location within walking distance of the Botanical Gardens and the Buenos Aires Zoo. Cribs and babysitting services are available upon request. The 26 rooms (four of which are smoking) are well-maintained and spacious, with Juliette balconies, sitting areas, and plenty of closet space; the kitchenettes feature stainless-steel appliances, utensils, and linens (you can even have the fridge stocked prior to your arrival, for a fee). Throughout, the hotel’s decor is simple yet sophisticated, with rich, dark colors and modern furniture. And two outdoor decks provide relaxing spots for sunbathing. The hotel lacks an on-site restaurant and pool, but guests are provided with vouchers for local eateries.

6

Mine Hotel Boutique

Palermo Viejo, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina

he Mine Hotel Boutique is an upscale 20-room hotel in the hip Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo Soho. Though set on a small piece of property, Mine uses its space phenomenally, and features a colorfully modern aesthetic. From the outside, the building has a futuristic vibe, and inside the lobby is a Zen-like open area -- its furnishings are distinct, colorful, and made from a number of natural materials. Each cozy guest room has a different color theme (lime greens, deep pinks, golden yellows) and style (Middle Eastern, Central American, Asian), making each uniquely fashionable.
