Bottom Line

The Casa Buzios is a charming old villa (pousada) located a few steps from the Orla Bardot ocean boulevard that runs through downtown Buzios. The villa was constructed in the 1940s, making it among the oldest buildings in the area, and it features a more recently built annex. Each of the six guest rooms is unique in terms of size, shape, and character. The public areas are charming and offer an interesting combination of French and African artwork and memorabilia, along with contemporary art pieces. There's also a lush tropical garden with a pool. Breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking are included.

Pousada Casa Búzios

Scene

Historic, romantic villa with familial atmosphere

The Casa Buzios has a romantic ambience and is small enough to feel more like a friend's home than a full-on hotel. The common areas feature a mix of French, Brazilian, and African artwork and old artifacts along with some contemporary pieces. The lobby is filled with books and magazines and freshly cut flowers add to the romantic feel. A blue-and-white-striped corner sofa set matches the ocean views. The garden is well maintained and offers colorful tropical flowers and an inviting courtyard. Guests are mainly from Brazil and Europe, and the property is popular with couples, families (who appreciate the big rooms), and younger party-goers who want easy access to Buzios.

Location

In downtown Buzios, within walking distance of the beaches and city center

The Casa Buzios is located in the center of town, near the beach boulevard of Orla Bardot, known for its all-night discos. It's a five-minute walk from the heart of the city, Rua das Pedras, a shopping street with lots of swimwear for sale. The immediate neighborhood  offers good dining choices, sunset bars, casual food carts, boutiques, and art galleries. The nearest beaches are a 10-minute walk away and are good for swimming. Although parking is free, most guests won't find a car necessary unless they want to explore further afield.

Staff can also assist in organizing airport transportation either to the domestic airport of Cabo Frio, a one-hour drive away, or to the international airport of Rio de Janeiro (Galeao), which normally can be reached in around three hours. During long holiday weekends, the New Year or Carnival time, the Rio-Buzios road can get pretty crowded and driving times may double.

Rooms

Six spacious, individually styled rooms full of character

The Casa Buzios offers six air-conditioned rooms, each with its own look and feel. Rooms have a French country-style decor theme and are beautifully decorated with antiques, rustic and romantic furniture, and wrought-iron chandeliers. Walls are white and rooms feature ceramic tiled floors covered with nice carpets. Some rooms have spacious private yards with patio furniture and hammocks. All rooms come with ceiling fans, minibars, safes, and 32-inch flat-screen TVs. The bathrooms feature walk-in showers, ceramic tiling, granite counter tops, and l'Occitane toiletries, though some show signs of wear and tear, such as peeling paint on the ceilings.

Features

Pool area and deck with great ocean views -- plus free breakfast with eggs and cakes

The Casa Buzios features a small terrace and some tables around the pool where a free breakfast of freshly squeezed tropical juices, fresh bread, cakes, and eggs is served. There's also a small lobby bar, that mainly serves fruit juices and famous Brazilian caipirinhas, but it closes early. Neither lunch, dinner, nor room service are available, but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

The pousada's outdoor pool is surrounded by a lush garden with a pretty daybed and some patio furniture. There's also an inner courtyard with space to sit and relax.

Wi-Fi is free but the connection is on the slow side. Beach towels can be borrowed for free and secure on-site parking is available for no additional fee as well.
