Bottom Line

Pousada Aguas Claras Buzios is located along a road leading towards the end of the Armacao dos Búzios Peninsula. This mid-range pousada offers older Classic rooms, as well as fresh Atual rooms in an annex that was built in 2013. The newer rooms are modern, quite spacious, and offer a solid value with large flat-screen TVs and plenty of storage space. Classic rooms include many of the same amenities, but have more dated decor and tired bathrooms. On-site features include a pool and kids' pool. The restaurant serves a Brazilian-style buffet breakfast that is included in the room rate. Wi-Fi is free throughout, as is parking.

Pousada Aguas Claras Buzios

Scene

The nice pool area with a tropical vibe is the highlight.

The Pousada Aguas Claras Buzios is a popular option both for families and couples. Most guests are local Brazilians. As the pousada is neither downtown nor on the beach, many arrive by car in order to explore the area. Still, both are within walking distance

The pousada offers clean and comfortable, if simple, public areas decorated with rustic-style furniture and some local artwork. The terrace -- adjacent to the lobby -- offers a cozy place to sit and relax. The pool area is quite spacious and offers an inviting deck and sun beds. The lobby-lounge, painted in strong orange color, is quite small, and features several sofa sets.

Location

Within walking distance of downtown and the beaches

The Pousada Aguas Claras Buzios is halfway between downtown and the beaches of João Fernandes or Brava. It may not have the most prime location, but the area is quiet, green, and residential with some pousadas and condominiums in the vicinity. The Brava beach is the closest. It is about 15 minutes walking and is normally pleasant and calm for swimming and relaxing. It offers some fancy private beach clubs serving sparkling wine and divans, but also a casual scene with vendors and kiosks selling ice-cold beer and tropical drinks. On the other side of the hill, there is beautiful cove.

João Fernandes beach -- among the most popular of the more than 20 beaches at the Armacão dos Búzios Peninsula -- is also about a 15- to 20-minute walk away. It offers more activities like snorkeling, wind surfing, and boating.

The downtown area can be reached in 10 to 15 minutes on foot. Rua das Pedras (stone street) is in the heart of Búzios, and offers several decent restaurants, cafes, bars, and boutiques selling famous Búzios-made bikinis and beach wear. On Orla Bardot (beach boulevard), you can spot the statue of Brigitte Bardot, who visited the city in the 1960s and made Búzios well-known.

Rooms

Fresh rooms with sleek decor in the newer annex, dated rooms in the original

The Pousada offers 38 rooms in two buildings. The original building features older Classic rooms (many can fit a family of three or four) as well as Atual rooms in the newer annex, which are targeted mainly towards couples. The rooms here have a clean and fresh look, with smart wood paneling, shiny ceramic tiled floors, and white and green walls. They feature side tables and narrow writing desks, all painted in white. The decor is simple, with mainly white, brown, and gray textiles. Some Atual rooms also come with balconies.

The Classic rooms offer similarly beige ceramic tiled floors and green and beige walls. The are comfortable and clean, but feel dated. The furniture is made of darker wood, and the doors are painted a strong (read: shocking) violet color. The bathrooms have ceramic tiles and offers small shower areas, basic toiletries, and hairdryers. The bathrooms in these rooms feel particularly dated.

Rooms in both categories feature air-conditioning, ceiling fans, minibars, safes, 32-inch LCD TVs, and DVDs. Wi-Fi is free and it is available both in the rooms and in public areas.

It offers spacious rooms, that can fit three to four guests, as well as a pool, children's pool, and hot tub The main pool is a good size. Adjacent is the kids' pool and indoors, guests can find the whirlpool and a steam room. The pousada has a lounge area that features a pool table, sofa set, some tables, and a TV.

The front desk offers concierge services. The staff sells tickets for city tours in Búzios and for visits to the nearby town of Cabo Frio.
