Pousada Bucaneiro

The Pousada Bucaneiro's name comes from local pirates, which explains the ocean themed decor and colors. Public areas have a bright and tasteful vibe. White floors, walls, and vaulted ceilings enhance the feel of space. The lobby/lounge features white sofas with colorful pillows, as well as an adjacent terrace. The breakfast area opens to the lobby and offers style and comfort with beautiful local decorative items, paintings, and both dried and fresh flowers. A dispenser of fruit-infused water is presented on the reception desk. The garden is well-maintained and has red frangipani trees, bougainvilleas, red ginger flowers, and banana trees. Kids are a common sight here, but most of the guests are couples and the overall vibe is quiet and laid back. 

The Pousada Bucaneiro is situated along a quiet street in a residential neighborhood between Búzios and Brava beach. The location is surely an asset for guests visiting Búzios who prefer to stay in a peaceful pousada surrounded by a tropical garden rather than downtown, which can get too busy and noisy at times. Yet, it's still within leisurely walking distance from some of the best beaches, like Brava or Praia do Canto. The most popular beaches like Geribá -- famous for its good surf and surfing schools -- is a 10- to 15-minute drive away, and João Fernandes beach can be reached in five minutes by car.

The immediate neighborhood does not offer much in the way of bars, restaurants, or shops, but the idyllic Búzios downtown is a 10- to 15-minute walk away. It offers dining options from expensive seafood restaurants and local grills to more budget oriented kilo restaurants and fast-food outlets. Rua das Pedras is the heart of Búzios: it gets filled with party-goers who are there to experience bars, ethnic restaurants, boutiques selling bikinis and swim-wear, and decent art galleries.

The Pousada Bucaneiro offers 20 rooms in two categories: Standard Rooms and Superior Rooms that come with a small terrace.  Both rooms feature high, vaulted ceilings, beige ceramic tiled floors, and white walls. Lime green bedspreads add a splash of color to the otherwise all white rooms, which look fresh and bright. Both room categories offer tiny writing desks and bamboo wall decorations and paintings. Air-conditioning, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs are standard. The Superior Rooms offer a terrace, which is set with a white sofa and pillows, and overlooks a peaceful garden. Small bathrooms feature white ceramic tiles, dark wood countertops, and showers. Basic toiletries and hairdryers are provided. 

The pousada offers a free, hot buffet breakfast, which includes a variety of fruits, juices, cakes, bread, eggs, and sausages. Lunch and dinner aren't served, but the pool bar provides drinks and snacks, like sandwiches and pizzas. Room service is available from early morning until late evening.

Perhaps the best feature of the pousada is the pool area, which features a tiered swimming pool, deck with sun beds, chairs, tables, and umbrellas. The surrounding, well-maintained garden with its flowering trees, gives the area a special tranquil vibe. Adjacent is a pool bar and a lounge that features a billiard table. A bit further is a romantic tented area provides outdoor massages. 

Wi-Fi and uncovered parking are free, and there's a desktop computer for guests' use. The front desk staff gets good reviews for their attentiveness and friendly service. They carry out concierge functions and sell tickets to city and boat tours both in Búzios and in the nearby city of Cabo Frio.
