Bottom Line

With a good location but dated and faded decor, the 53-room Hotel America is a basic property located a short walk from the center of Marina Di Camerota and the Cilento coast. The property features large gardens and a small outdoor pool with both a patio and an outdoor dining area, as well as an on-site restaurant and a fitness center that also includes a few spa treatments and massages. While the room are clean and simple, and rates include free breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi access, much of the property feels worn, and the best thing about the hotel is its central location -- guests have easy access to everything in the region, and can walk both to town and to the sea.

Hotel America

Scene

Simple and bright, but dated, hotel

Hotel America is surrounded by trees and gardens, and upon arrival, guests will enter the parking area and follow the clearly marked signs to the small reception area in the main building. Patios and outdoor areas surround the hotel, and the outdoor pool is visible from the front desk. The lobby is plain but bright and clean, with grey tiled floors, high ceilings, several seating areas including tables and chairs, and a small wooden reception desk located next to the stairs. Tour information is available, and stairs lead to the guest room upstairs or the fitness center and spa services downstairs.

Location

Surrounded by gardens, close to town and the water

Tucked between a handful of restaurants, bars, and shops, guests at this property can walk into town and are located 800 meters from the water. While the sea is not visible from the hotel, it is fairly easy to get to (though there are closer hotel options), and the hotel is close enough to the main roads that travelers have easy access to the attractions around the region. The town is small and the hotel property is quiet and peaceful, since it’s just far enough from the nearby restaurants and shops to give guests privacy.

Rooms

Basic and clean rooms, many with patios and terraces

The Hotel America features 53 guest rooms in a variety of shapes and sizes, each individually decorated. Though color schemes vary, most have tile floors and basic wood furniture; a couple we saw had red patterned bedspreads, which added a cheery (if dated) feel. The least expensive rooms are the Economy Class Rooms, which are very simple, featuring clean areas and basic decor, with several sleeping configurations available. All rooms include air-conditioning, minibars, televisions, and telephones. Guests who prefer a bit of an upgrade should choose the Junior Suites or Suites, which are quite a bit larger and can include separate seating areas and multiple bedrooms. Many rooms also include either a patio or terrace, with beautiful views of the countryside and nearby towns.

Features

Central location, with several convenient amenities

Hotel America is a smaller property and has few features, but it is close enough to town that guests have a number of dining and shopping options within walking or driving distance. The on-site restaurant serves free breakfast as well as lunch and dinner, and features a number of regional dishes unique to the Cilento area. The fitness and wellness center includes exercise equipment as well as a whirlpool, sauna, and a small menu of face and body treatments. The hotel also includes a number of lovely outdoor areas, including spacious gardens and a small outdoor pool with patio and lounge areas.
