Fiesta Inn Cancun Las Americas

The Fiesta Inn, first opened in 2012, is primarily targeted at the business traveler, and the majority of guests are Latin executives in town for conventions. The hotel also sees some American and Canadian travelers, although the European style of service -- no all-inclusive options or mini-fridges -- may make all-inclusive resorts in the Hotel Zone a better fit for the North American market.

Entry to the hotel is only available via Plaza Las Americas below, and once guests exit the elevator into the main lobby they step into a sleek and modern environment, with marble floors and walls surrounding the reception. From there, guests can make their way into the 360 Lounge area with nearly ceiling-high windows looking out over Malecon Americas, the Hotel Zone, and the ocean, a view that can also be taken in from the rooftop terrace and gym.

The public computers, restaurant seating area, and deli area are just beyond, and the meeting rooms and the convention space for the hotel are in the back area. There is an independent tour operator located in the lobby for guests who want to explore the Riviera Maya during their downtime.

While the hotel isn’t located near the beaches that Cancun is famous for, the east-facing side of the hotel has sweeping views over the entire stretch of coastline, while the back side of the hotel looks out over the mainland city. Although the sunset views can be spectacular, guests who prefer looking out over the ocean will want to request accordingly.

The Fiesta Inn is set on the southern edge of downtown Cancun directly above Plaza Las Americas, the largest mall on the mainland. That means guests have the entire sprawl of name-brand stores, restaurants, a movie theater with VIP seating available, and Chedraui supermarket directly below.

Across Bonampak Avenue are a slew of restaurants and sports bars to choose from, along with the Plaza de Toros, and the entire palisade known as Malecon Americas along the lagoon, popular in the evening hours for long walks, cycling, rollerblading, or just enjoying the cool evening breeze coming in from the ocean and over the lagoon.

Plaza Las Americas also operates as one of the major transportation hubs in the city, and dozens of bus routes make their way from the west side of the plaza along Tulum Avenue, or from the street down in the underground section alongside the parking garage. Taxis are also readily available. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to get to the beaches of the Hotel Zone as well as to the Cancun International Convention Center, or 10 minutes to get to the heart of downtown. 

The 152 rooms at the Fiesta Inn are designed primarily with the short-term working executives in mind, and provide well-lit workstations that feature plenty of electrical plugs for your devices. Dark wood, cream walls, white sheets, and grey floors contribute to a monochrome feel that contrasts with the orange tile walls and sink area just outside of the bathroom. While there aren’t any mini-fridges in the rooms, the 24/7 room service is a handy perk for business travelers arriving or working late (or early). Fifty-three Superior Rooms have a king-size bed, while 87 have two queen-size beds. There are 11 Suites that have a king-size bed, along with a living room that has additional furniture in the same grey and orange overtones. The single handicap-accessible unit has a king-size bed.

Each room comes with a coffeemaker with free water plus coffee for one morning; if guests are staying more than one day, additional water bottles and coffee packets are available at an additional cost. Amenities include flat-screen TVs and in-room safes. Eastern-facing rooms have ocean views, and the rest face the city; be sure to specify when booking if you prefer one view over the other.

The bathrooms have tile walk-in showers with glass doors. Just outside the door in the main bedroom area is the basin sink on an orange countertop and by an orange mosaic tile wall, which offer a spark of color in an otherwise monochrome theme. Hairdryers are provided. 

First-floor rooms have smoking options available.  

The hotel’s primary focus is on its own business spaces, which range from smaller meeting rooms and salons, to the event area in the auditorium section, to the rooftop lounge, which can be rented out alongside with the pool for special events.

The chic, ocean-view rooftop pool and attractive gym are highlights. Note that smoking is permitted on the terrace, which doubles as a poolside lounge with loungers. Hand towels and bottled water are available within the gym, along with cold water from a dispenser, and there is a variety of equipment: treadmills, cycles, an elliptical, and one weight machine.

The downstairs seating area for the restaurant is an extension of the main lobby, with east-facing views out the ceiling-high windows over the lagoon and ocean. Breakfast is offered but not included in the rate, and there are Mexican and international dishes are available for lunch and dinner. The deli area, known as La Isla, is where the buffet is located, and also offers snack options available 24 hours a day, plus a self-service bar, espresso, coffee, and tea. 

There are public computers for guests to use just to the side of reception and the main lobby. Additional services, such as printing, faxing, photocopying, and scanning are available at additional cost.

Past the lobby and restaurant are the first of the meeting rooms, with two salons with room for six and 10 individuals, respectively. There’s also a table out front for up to 12 people, but it’s around the corner in the convention center area that the main action takes place. The main auditorium is normally broken down into four main salons, but the walls can be removed to allow up to the maximum of 280 guests in an auditorium setting. For additional business space, guests can also rent out the rooftop garden and pool area, which has room for between 70 and 100 people depending on whether guests need a banquet-style meeting or a cocktail event with smaller tables.

The hotel has 10 parking spaces specifically for guests set within the parking garage for Plaza Las Americas, where there are also hundreds of others available, although fees apply for non-hotel slots.
