Bottom Line

Situated just south of Cancun, Haven Riviera Cancun is an adults-only property offering a quieter alternative to some of the more boisterous all-inclusive resorts farther up the coast. All 333 rooms here have private balconies or terraces with either whirlpool tubs or swim-up pool access, and most have views of the ocean and/or main pool. Those in the Serenity Club category add special perks a such as a dedicated beach area and exclusive lounge access. Dining options include a couple of buffet restaurants plus Mediterranean and pan-Asian options. There are also a few bars along with a nightclub with regular entertainment. It’s a great, contemporary pick for low-key vacationers, but travelers who want to keep busy may prefer the Secrets The Vine Cancun, which has more on-site activities.

Haven Riviera Cancun

Scene

A calmer adults-only resort for low-key travelers looking to relax

Haven Riviera Cancun is a quiet, adults-only property catering primarily to couples looking to relax. It’s shaped like a horseshoe around the Haven's lagoon pool so that most of the rooms get full or partial sea and pool views. The overall feel is contemporary and sleek, with lots of sharp edges and geometric shapes in the decor and a big open-air lobby with a two-story sky-lit ceiling and big windows. Many of the bars and restaurants here offer great views out over the pool and sea and they tend to feature low-key, neutral decor with lots of light wood and the occasional colorful accent. The vibe is distinctly calmer than resorts found in Cancun’s hotel zone, and the Haven Riviera — with its limited entertainment offerings and activities — is best for travelers who really want to unwind and relax.

Location

20 minutes from Cancun's airport and just outside of the wild Hotel Zone

Haven Riviera Cancun is situated right on the beach just south of central Cancun and about a 20-minute drive from the Cancun International Airport. The area around the resort is dominated by other high-end hotels, and there are a couple of golf courses within a short drive. The location is ideal for travelers who want to be away from Cancun’s nightlife, but still be able to access it easily. Cancun's boisterous Hotel Zone is about a 35-minute drive away, while it takes 45 minutes to get to the slightly more sophisticated Playa del Carmen.

Rooms

Stylish and contemporary rooms at Haven Riviera Cancun, including Junior Suite Swim-Out options

All rooms at the Haven Riviera Cancun feature a similar aesthetic, with cream-colored marble floors and coordinating sofas, light-wood wall paneling, doors, and desks, and a mix of soft, soothing furnishings and wall art paired with geometric patterns found in throw rugs, headboards, and light fixtures. Sea-blue accents add a nautical touch, but the overall vibe is sleek and contemporary. Sliding glass doors lead out to private balconies equipped with either whirlpool tubs or, in the case of the Junior Suite Swim-Out units, access to a swim-out pool shared with neighboring guests.

Amenities found across all Haven Riviera Cancun rooms include Nespresso coffeemakers, minibars, safes that are big enough to fit laptops, 50-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite cable, free Wi-Fi, and clothing steamers. Welcome bottles of mezcal are a nice touch. Bathrooms have a similar look as the rooms, with marble floors, huge granite countertops with double vanities, and big walk-in rainfall showers (albeit with windows that look out on the living spaces in some categories). All come stocked with toiletries, robes and slippers, hairdryers, and backlit cosmetics mirrors.

The resort also offers a number of Serenity Club Oceanfront Suites, club-level units that come with a number of special perks, that have a similar look and feel to the regular rooms, but with darker blue hues in the furnishings and guaranteed excellent views. These suites are also available in one- and two-bedroom configurations, and there's a one-of-its-kind Presidential Suite that even has its own private gym.

Features

Excellent dining, a pretty spa, and lovely pool plus direct beach access

Like the rest of the property, facilities at the Haven Riviera are sleek and modern. The main circular pool here is a real showstopper, with its zero-entry access and submerged loungers. There's also a separate lap pool with more lounge chairs and an additional swim-out pool accessible to guests in swim-out suites. Alternatively, guests can head down to the sandy beach, where they'll find lounge chairs and palapa-shaded beach beds interspersed with towering palm trees. However, it does get its share of seaweed, as beaches do, which can put some guests off from swimming.

The Haven also offers a large selection of dining and drinking options, particularly for a hotel of its size, from the main buffet restaurant, Flavours, to the ocean-facing Vora Mar, which offers buffet and a la carte offerings at lunch and dinner. For dinner, there's a fine-dining Mediterranean option, Olios, and the Asian-fusion Satsu, both of which are a la carte.  There's also a snack bar and a handful of bars, plus a deli and a nightclub with cocktails and evening comedy and music shows. All-inclusive rates provide access to everything, and food gets enthusiastic marks from previous guests. Dress codes do apply at some dinner venues.

Wellness facilities include the enormous MySenses Spa, which features a hydrotherapy circuit and a variety of offerings, from massages to manicures, plus a fitness center equipped with modern cardio machines and free weights.

Serenity Club guests get access to several extras, including an exclusive reception area, access to exclusive lounges and receptions, free access to the pool circuit, and even a dedicated beach area with butler service.
