Bottom Line

The 430-room, four-pearl Temptation Resort Spa Cancun is an adult-only, topless-optional property that caters to 21 and over, uninhibited guests. There is never a dull moment at this all-inclusive, beachfront resort, which features activity-packed swimming pools and nightly risqué live shows. Fun-seeking travelers will find a range of entertainment, six bars, and quality dining options that range from Asian to Mexican. Renovations completed in 2017 gave the resort a colorful, modern design with a futuristic feel. Sleek rooms have balconies, free Wi-Fi, and minibars, but some bathrooms are small. The beach area is small compared to other resorts, but shaded sunbeds offer a quiet spot to relax. On the downside, some guests have complained of noise reaching rooms, hot tubs closing too early, and dress codes at the restaurants. For a less rowdy adult-only spot, consider Secrets The Vine.

Fun and sexy topless-optional resort with colorful, modern design

Only accepting guests 21 and over, Temptation is a topless-optional resort that attracts both singles and couples looking for a fun getaway. The sexy atmosphere won't appeal to all, but most past guests rave about the staff-led pool activities and nightly risqué entertainment that includes lingerie shows and foam parties. As rates are all-inclusive, six bars keep guests' drinks full, but some guests have complained that a dress code sometimes requires men to wear pants. Elsewhere on the resort, however, most guests are scantily clad and either participating in the lively fun or seeking tranquility at the Quiet Pool or small beach. More guests are couples than singles, and they tend to be in the 35 to 45 age range. The vibe is friendly and relaxed.

Renovations completed in 2017 brought a fresh, colorful style and a more exclusive Tower housing rooms, a rooftop pool, bar, and DJ-led music. Buildings have white exteriors with colorful purple, pink, green, and yellow accents, while interiors are done in modern, futuristic-looking decor designed with the human body and sensuality in mind. Expect sensual photo murals, silver armchairs, green egg-shaped seats, lots of curved elements, and bright pops of color throughout.

Travelers wanting a party-minded all-inclusive property without the topless option should consider the Grand Oasis Cancun. On the other hand, couples wanting a clothing-optional resort can look into Desire Riviera Maya Resort, but it's a 40-minute drive south of Cancun's Hotel Zone.

Beachfront setting in Cancun's Hotel Zone

Temptation Cancun Resort is located along a small beach outside of the central Hotel Zone area. A couple of convenience stores, restaurants, and pharmacies are within a short walk, but taxis will be required to reach most points of interest. Nightlife spots like Coco Bongo and Senor Frog's are a 17-minute drive south, while La Isla shopping mall is about a 25-minute drive away. Downtown Cancun can be reached in about 10 minutes by car. Note that taxis are expensive, but buses are available for cheaper. Cancun International Airport is a 30-minute drive away. Tulum and its ruins are just under a two-hour drive, and the popular Chichen Itza ruins are two-and-a-half hours by car.

Bright, modern rooms with furnished balconies but compact bathrooms

The 430 guest rooms are divided between the main building and the exclusive Tower that opened in 2017. All, however, are done in a similar modern style that mimics common areas. Expect a futuristic look with polished surfaces, minimal furniture, and colorful accents in patterned wallpaper, bathroom panels, and rugs. All have floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors that lead to furnished balconies with either garden or ocean views. On the downside, some guests have complained of thin walls and compact bathrooms. Standard amenities include powerful air-conditioning, minibars, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, electronic safes, alarm clocks with Bluetooth, bathrobes, slippers, and hairdryers. Bathrooms have rainfall showers and quality toiletries, plus some units add whirlpools on their terraces.

Tower rooms have access to the building's rooftop pool and bar.

Small beach, activity-centric pool, nightly entertainment, and quality restaurants

Temptation is packed with ample features to keep guests on-site and occupied, whether they're seeking peaceful relaxation or fun entertainment. For the former, the beach area is tranquil and lined with sunbeds, though it's small in comparison to other resorts. Additionally, there's a Quiet Pool with its own swim-up bar and jet features. Most guests tend to hang around the ocean-view Sexy Pool during the day, as it's bigger and staff run lively activities and entertainment here. Several hot tubs are found throughout, but guests have complained that they close on the early side -- 7 p.m. during our stay. Those staying in Tower rooms have free access to the building's Sky 3.5 rooftop pool and bar, and other guests can pay to use it. A full-service spa has massage and beauty treatments, and multiple pools. Throughout the day and night are optional entertainment, ranging from foam parties and lingerie shows to themed nights with DJs such as "Angels and Devils."

All restaurants and bars are covered in the all-inclusive package, but 24-hour room service requires an added fee. Cuisines range from Mexican and Asian to Italian and seafood. An international buffet, coffee bar, sports bar, and grill are also available. Two restaurants require reservations and most require men to wear pants at dinner. Food across the board receives positive reviews.

A well-equipped gym and boutique shop are on-site. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
