Bottom Line

The 617-room Pierre & Vacances Residence Cannes Beach is a large, low-end holiday resort located on the fringes of Cannes overlooking the Mediterranean. The outdoor pool and nearby beach are the main highlights, while apartments offer very basic but adequate cooking facilities. Accommodation is certainly no-frills and the complex feels tired and dated, but does provide a self-catering option for budget-conscious families looking for a cheap vacation.

Cannes Beach Appartements – Lsi

Scene

No-frills, family-friendly budget resort with dated interiors

Arriving at the Pierre & Vacances Residence Cannes Beach, despite the imposing, seven-floor concrete facade partially smothered in vegetation, it is hard to quite appreciate the scale of this 617-room holiday complex. Although built in 2004, the lounge area already feels somewhat dated, with plenty of wicker and blond-wood paneling, though perfectly welcoming and unpretentious. There is very little to get excited about here, it's a functional, no-frills apartment hotel which seems to provide the bare minimum in maintenance, amenities, and levels of service. It is popular with families on a very tight budget, however, and on a summer's day the swimming pool area can be a pleasant place to soak up some sun.

Location

Set in residential area close to airport overlooking Cannes Bay next to beach

The complex is located in a largely residential area overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and Cannes Bay, a couple miles or around a 10-minute drive from the center of town. The Bosquet train terminal is just minutes walk away, while the Cannes Mandelieu Airport is just five minutes by car. Through a tunnel running under the railway and a busy seafront road, there there's a thin strip of sandy beach within two minutes walk, though the town's best beaches are about a five-minute drive along the coast.

Rooms

Basic, self-catering apartment open to furnished balconies -- some with sea views

The hotel has over 600 units, all of which are simply decorated in a colorful though slightly dated fashion with modern furnishings and wooden floors. All apartments come with a kitchenette with basic amenities, including microwave, fridge, and dishwasher, as well as a lounge/dining area. Beds are also pretty basic, with blankets and furnishings in general showing signs of wear. Air-conditioning, however, comes as standard and apartments have sliding doors that open out onto furnished balconies or terraces -- some with views of the Mediterranean. Be aware there is an extra charge for towels.

Features

Seasonal outdoor pool area with sun beds -- though in need of makeover

The hotel's main offering is the seasonal outdoor swimming pool (open May to October) which is surrounded by sun terraces dotted with loungers -- though the area is looking old and in need of a refresh. Breakfast is available at the property, but judging from reports, it's best avoided. There is secure underground parking (for a fee) for those arriving by car.
