Bottom Line

Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach is a 150-room mid-range hotel located close to the beach and to Port Canaveral, making it a great option for cruise-goers and beach fans, as well as for long-term travelers. Guest rooms are spacious and apartment-style with full kitchens and colorful, though somewhat generic modern decor. There is a lovely outdoor pool and a small fitness center. While there's no on-site restaurant, free buffet breakfast is served daily, and grocery shopping services are available. Wi-Fi is free but parking isn't, unless guests book a cruise package. Views are somewhat lackluster, however, and rates higher than some nearby hotels.

Oyster Hotel Review

Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach

Scene

Generic chain hotel decor in dated prints and colors

Situated on four-lane Astronaut Boulevard, the hotel is housed in a four-story building, brightly painted in two tones of yellow. A life-size statue of a NASA astronaut greets guests on arrival in the lobby, which has dated blue carpeting and leads to a breakfast area with tall ceilings for nice natural light, and decor in bold blues, greens, and terra cotta shades. This lounge area also has a high top table with several outlets for laptops, a large flat-screen TV, and a bookshelf filled with books. Outside is the hotel's nicely curved pool and hot tub, with several lounge chairs, and tables with umbrellas and chairs. There are a large patio area with seating, and a fire pit with cushioned chairs. Guests tend to be families or cruise passengers.

Location

About five minutes from the beach and Port Canaveral

This property is located less than five minutes from Port Canaveral, and about five minutes from the Cocoa Beach Pier by car. There are several fast food restaurants as well as a few sit-down style restaurants within a five-minute drive. The area is filled with recreational opportunities: parasailing, casino cruises, surfing, and windsurfing businesses are all within a five- to 10-minute drive. Kennedy Space Center is about 15 minutes away. There are several cruise lines within five minutes, as well. Expect to pay a daily rate for parking without booking a cruise package.

Rooms

All the comforts of home, but no views

All 150 rooms are apartment-style and feel warm and welcoming, though they lack notable views. Options include Studios, and One- and Two-Bedroom Suites, all with full kitchens, dining areas, and free Wi-Fi. The decor is more contemporary than in the common areas, with striped carpeting, warm wood furniture, and mauve couches with stylish patterned pillows. Colorful framed artwork and cream walls lend suites a homey vibe. The bathrooms are bright and clean with light wood vanities, granite countertops, and shower/tub combos.

Features

Free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and free beer and wine three nights a week

The hotel lacks an on-site restaurant, but offers a free daily buffet breakfast and meal deliveries from local restaurants for an additional fee. Family-friendly amenities include a moderately sized outdoor pool, a hot tub, multi-use sports courts, and a shaded picnic area. Three evenings weekly, the hotel holds a Manager's Toast with free light dinner fare, plus beer and wine. There is free Wi-Fi in all of the rooms and in the common areas. The business center is small with only one computer, but the lounge area has several outlets and seating for laptop users. The hotel also offers several meeting spaces for business events, conferences, and/or parties. The fitness center is quite small, with a handful of cardio machines.
