Bottom Line

CapeWind Waterfront Resort is a secluded motel with outdoor amenities like a pool, volleyball court, and free paddle boats and kayaks for guests to use. This budget motel has 31 rooms and some come with a full-size kitchenette. The biggest drawbacks are the dated rooms and maintenance problems that some guests have reported, though the affordable nature of the place still draws families and couples. The best feature of the hotel is that it is located on the waterfront of a bay. The motel allows guests to tie up their boats for free on the dock, a perk that allows for easy access to the ocean. The nearby InnSeason Resorts Surfside has a sleeker design with similar amenities so it may be worth checking out.

CapeWind Waterfront Resort

Scene

A motel with four blue and red cabin-like buildings and large lovely grounds

CapeWind Waterfront Resort is a motel with four long blue and red cabin-like buildings laid out in the form of a horseshoe. Behind the motel and in the interior of the horseshoe are the well-maintained grounds. The grounds are made up of a large grassy field filled with lounge chairs, gazebos, a volleyball court, and a pool with tall shady trees sprinkled along the edges. A dock leads from the grounds and out into the bay that leads to the ocean. As for the lobby, it has rustic-style furniture with a few model ships and decorative fish pieces that hint to a nautical theme. Though small, it has a few chairs in the lobby, a bookshelf with books, and brochures. For the most part, guests are mostly couples or families.

Location

Located on the waterfront of a bay, about a five-minute drive from dining and beaches

CapeWind Waterfront Resort is located in a residential neighborhood along the edge of a bay (part of Great Pond) which makes it secluded and quiet. For those with boats, it’s a great area to take off from the motel’s dock and head out into the ocean. Falmouth Heights Beach is the closest beach at a six-minute drive away. Many dining options are located on Highway 28 (Teaticket Highway) with the McDonald’s being the closest at a 13-minute walk. Other dining options are farther down the highway and a car is the best way to access them. For guests who want to use their kitchenettes, Super Stop & Shop is four minutes away by car and Shaw’s is about a three-minute drive.

Rooms

Rooms vary in decor and technology, and some come with kitchenettes.

The Studio Rooms have the option of a single queen-size bed or a room with two double-size beds. The decor of the rooms vary but most have a dated floral theme with a white, pink, and turquoise color scheme. Some rooms have "updated" technology that includes small flat-screen TVs, while other rooms have box sets. Guests have the option of rooms with kitchenettes; each of these includes a kitchen and dining area with a dining table, stove, oven, large refrigerator, microwave, and sink. Studio Rooms without kitchenettes are each equipped with a microwave and a mini-fridge. Keurig coffee machines provided by the motel are a nice touch.

Bathrooms are cramped with no counter space and shower/hot tub combos. Guests have reported bothersome maintenance problems in the rooms and bathrooms. The motel occasionally offers room packages throughout the year such as a Beach Picnic Package, which includes a picnic blanket and basket.
