Bottom Line

The 88-room Surfside Hotel & Suites is a pet-friendly value property on a private beach. Breakfast is served in the lobby where there’s also an indoor bar. Rooms are colorful and contemporary, but they can also be cramped and/or noisy from street noise. Still, all have mini-fridges and microwaves, and many have beachfront balconies. Apartments with full kitchens are also available. For something with a bit more character, travelers could try the three-pearl Snug Cottage B&B, which can also have lower rates.

Surfside Hotel & Suites

Scene

Oceanfront value hotel on a private beach with dog-friendly rooms

The Surfside Hotel & Suites is made up of two buildings. Constructed in 1964, the beachfront building features four floors, elevator access, and balconies with white wooden railings that hang over a small stretch of sand. The other three-story building -- which lacks an elevator -- faces the outdoor pool and fire pit. The Surfside's lobby is homey and inviting, with cozy wicker furniture and a flat-screen TV. Dogs are honored guests here and get treats on check-in; an outdoor dog shower is also available. In addition to appealing to pet owners, the facilities and private beach also draw families and couples.

Location

On Commercial Street, with direct private beach access

It’s the hotel’s location directly on a private beach that sets it apart from other properties in its low-key residential surroundings. Situated right on Commercial Street in the center of town, the Surfside is a 10- to 20-minute walk away from the Pilgrim Monument, Provincetown Trolley, and Boston ferries at MacMillan Pier. The Truro Vineyards are a 10-minute car trip, and the Cape Cod National Sanctuary, with plenty of biking trails, is a half-hour drive away. Provincetown Municipal Airport is 10 minutes away by car. The drive to Logan International Airport takes two and a half hours.

Rooms

Contemporary and traditional rooms, suites, and apartments; many with beachfront balconies

Spread across two separate buildings, rooms feature interior furnishings that range from red-and-blue contemporary designs with beachy touches to traditional light wooden furniture. Some show signs of wear and tear, but nothing serious. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, irons/ironing boards, and bathrobes. The most desirable rooms have balconies or patios that overlook the ocean, while other rooms face the outdoor pool, fire pit, or the street and can be noisy at times. Three of the Suites have whirlpool tubs and sofa beds in their living rooms; some units also have kitchens and Murphy beds. One- and Two-Bedroom Apartments feature kitchens, sofa beds in living rooms, and washer/dryers. Bathrooms are run-of-the-mill granite and beige affairs and have hairdryers, robes, and shower/tub combos.
