Bottom Line

The 2inn1 Kensington is a small, upscale boutique hotel a short taxi ride from the center of Cape Town. A renovated Victorian house, the property is smart, stylish, and oozes African charm. The size of the hotel ensures that guests are given personal attention, and many guests rave about friendly owners Kris and Klaus, who can give excellent local recommendations. The location may not be the most central, but the tranquil atmosphere, incredibly attentive service, attractive outdoor pool, modern rooms, fabulous views of Table Mountain, excellent breakfast, and small spa help make this one of Cape Town's most popular hotels. If it's booked, consider Parker Cottage as an alternative.

2Inn1 Kensington

Scene

A modern boutique hotel, with tons of local charm

This Victorian house has been beautifully renovated into a chic, elegant inn. Communal areas are bright, fresh and modern, but also homey, as there are cozy fireplaces and leather sofas to sink into. Hints of animal print in the decor and African artifacts give you a real taste of the country's culture. The narrow restaurant off the lobby is sleek and sophisticated, with a green and white color scheme and concrete floors, and has doors opening to the pool deck. The outdoor pool and garden area is impeccably maintained and is a perfect setting to take in the spectacular mountain views. Every part of this hotel feels calm and tranquil.

Guests are mostly couples, and rave about the staff members, who go above and beyond to accommodate requests and provide local recommendations. The inn gets a lot of repeat visitors, indicative of its high level of customer service.

Location

A safe, quiet area away from the city buzz

The 2inn1 Kensington is hidden away in a quiet, residential neighborhood with stunning mountain views. It's perfect for those who want to explore everything that Cape Town has to offer, but without the city noise. The downside, of course, is that you're not within walking distance to downtown or the waterfront and will need to get taxis (the staff will provide contact information for the inn's recommended taxi service). It's six minutes by taxi to downtown, seven minutes to Camps Bay, 10 minutes to the waterfront, and 30 minutes to the airport. Taxis are fairly inexpensive, and very easy to come by.

Rooms

Spacious and chic; some have mountain views

The inn's nine rooms have a fresh, modern style. Decor includes white walls and bed linen along complemented by tones of green and brown, and everything is maintained to the highest standard. The Standard Rooms are smaller and do not offer a view, so if it's in the budget, it’s worth upgrading to a Luxury Room or splashing out on the Apartment Suite for lots of floor space and fabulous mountain vistas. Most of these rooms also have a balcony or terrace. Amenities include safes, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and DVD players, bathrobes and slippers, iPod docks, and coffee/tea facilities -- plus some unexpected extras like underfloor heating and free minibar drinks. Wi-Fi is free. The bathrooms are contemporary and luxurious, with double basin sinks and high-end toiletries.
