Bottom Line

Located 50 yards from the beach and Atlantic Ocean, Club Val d'Anfa Hotel is situated in the vibrant La Corniche area of Casablanca, with its restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. While not a truly upscale property like Casablanca's Sofitel or Hyatt Regency, this upper-middle-range hotel has a distinctive Moroccan character throughout its interiors. Housed in two buildings, the 137 rooms feature flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, and some rooms have ocean views. An outdoor freeform pool, massage treatments (for a fee), a sauna, Turkish steam rooms, several restaurants, and a nightclub with belly dancing add a resort vibe here, though Wi-Fi can be spotty, the breakfast buffet isn't free, and some rooms could use renovating.

Club Val d’Anfa Hotel

Scene

Rich Moroccan character draws tourists and business travelers alike

Set on landscaped grounds with lawns, gardens, and palm trees, Club Val d'Anfa Hotel consists of two modern buildings with four floors each. The interiors are suffused with rich Moroccan colors and details. Guests enter a lavishly decorated lobby with dark wood paneling, mosaic tiles, Berber rugs, lattice screens, coffered ceilings, and a chandelier, while the bell staff wears typical Moroccan uniforms. The adjacent seating area features floor-to-ceiling pillars, vases and large urns, dark leather sofas and upholstered chairs, with Moorish lamps and arched doorways. These design features reappear throughout most of the hotel's public spaces and guest rooms. Tourist couples and business travelers make up the bulk of travelers here, as well as vacationing families, who gather in the lobby and restaurants, and around the outdoor pool. The pool deck has lounge chairs and umbrellas, and transforms at night into an atmospheric space for cocktails and candlelit dinners -- sunset views are also nice from here. The hotel's beach area has a fair amount of rocks and uneven sand, and the access path is a little worn down and dirty -- it's not the most attractive place to sunbathe.

Rooms

Moroccan design with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs

Guest rooms aren't necessarily upscale, but they do have some elegant touches and an attractive Moroccan aesthetic, with white walls, brightly colored Moroccan-themed art, floral-print upholstered chairs, colorful Berber rugs, wood furniture, beamed ceilings, and parquet floors. Some rooms have hand-painted furniture and ceilings. Beds are made up with white linens and dark-brown bed runners, decorative pillows, and carved wooden headboards. Rooms come in Standard, Superior, Junior Suite, Royal Suite, and Presidential Suite categories, and all include bottled water, desks, mini-bars, air-conditioning, occasionally spotty free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. The best rooms have balconies with views of the beach, ocean, and sunset. Clad in marble, the bathrooms are spacious and clean, featuring ample counter space, wall-mounted hairdryers, bathrobes, and high quality toiletries, although the lighting could be improved.  While all rooms are clean, some rooms in the older building could use a renovation and better maintenance. Also, some rooms may experience noise issues, especially from street traffic and the nightclub across the road. Non-smoking rooms are available.

Features

Beach access, freeform outdoor pool, spa with steam room and sauna

Club Val d'Anfa Hotel offers a good array of facilities throughout the property. The hotel is about 50 yards east of its own beach area, which is adjacent to a public beach, though it's rocky and not the most ideal for sunbathing. The hotel's freeform outdoor pool has a shallow children's end, a deck with lounge chairs, and a poolside bar. At night the area surrounding the pool changes into a space for cocktails and candlelight dinners. The hotel's full-service spa offers massages and treatments (for a fee), a hair salon, sauna, Turkish steam room, and indoor jetted tub, though the area isn't the most chic we've seen and some of the tiling and grout throughout could use a deep scrub.

The hotel serves a breakfast buffet, which some may find a bit expensive, but the ample spread includes cooked-to-order eggs, sausages, crepes, pancakes, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, cereals, fruit, coffee, and juice. The Club Val d'Anfa also offers five dining options including a traditional Moroccan restaurant, ocean and pool-side restaurants, and French and Italian cuisines with good seafood selections. Room service is also available. There are also a stylish cocktail lounge and a nightclub on site, with belly dancers and traditional Moroccan music. The hotel has bell staff, concierge services, on-site shops, a business center, and meeting rooms with available catering services. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though it can be spotty.
