Hotel Le Doge Relais & Chateaux

Hotel & Spa Le Doge is housed in an elegant white mansion erected in the 1930s. Re-opened in 2010 as a hotel, it feels like a gracious home. Guests enter to an elegant, warmly lit lobby with a chandelier, wall of mirrors, and eye-catching Tamara de Lempicka painting. The space is filled with a burgundy velour sofa, red-and-brown Art Deco rug, circular tables, and Moroccan mosaic vases. There is a spiral staircase with a wrought iron railing and red-carpeted stairs. Guests gather in the lobby and in the wood-paneled library bar with leather chairs, stained glass windows, books, and piano. A live pianist plays on some evenings. The French restaurant's Art Deco dining room features a stained glass ceiling and windows. Guests can read a book, converse, and get some sun on the fifth floor garden terrace with a view of Ligue Arab Park. The hotel tends to draw well-heeled tourists and couples, who appreciate its luxury and intimate feel.

Located on a quiet side street in Casablanca's central Art Deco district, the Hotel & Spa Le Doge is a two-minute walk west of Place Mohammed V and a block north of the Church of the Sacred Heart. The Abderrahman Slaoui Museum of Moroccan art is a block east. The Casa Port railway station and Port of Casablanca are about a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk northeast. United Nations Square and the Place des Nations Unies tramway station are a five-minute walk northeast of the hotel and the main entrance of the Old Medina medieval walled marketplace is a 15-minute walk north of the hotel. AnfaPlace shopping center and La Corniche beach area on the Atlantic are a 12-minute drive west of the hotel. Billed as the largest mosque in Africa and featuring a 689-foot minaret, the Hassan II Mosque is a 25-minute walk or five-minute drive north of the hotel. Hotel & Spa Le Doge is a 40-minute drive north of Mohammed V International Airport. Parking at the hotel is free. 

The 16 rooms and suites at Hotel & Spa Le Doge are situated on five floors, and come in Sensation, Passion, and Charm categories. Rooms have a sumptuous retro look and are named for artists, writers, and performers from the 1920s and 1930s: Ernest Hemingway, Jean Cocteau, Colette, Josephine Baker, Fritz Lang, Man Ray, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Coco Chanel, and Charlie Chaplin, to name a few. Rooms feature rich colors like red, Moroccan blue, violet, emerald green, and chocolate brown. Decorative and architectural elements give these rooms their distinctive, glam style, and can include high ceilings, wood paneling, hardwood floors, period furniture, color prints, black-and-white photos, and framed letters. Other features include geometric print rugs in the Fitzgerald room, a Baldachin canopied bed in the Cocteau room, and a Chesterfield sofa, marble fireplace, four-poster bed, and zebra-print throw pillows in the Hemingway room. Rooms all come with minibars, Nespresso coffee machines, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. Plush beds consist of thick mattresses and fine cotton sheets. Some rooms have private terraces. 

Bathrooms are clean, spacious, and well lit, and have ample counter space. Each features heated towel racks, premium bath products, bathrobes and slippers, and deep soaking tubs. Some bathrooms have separate tubs and showers. Non-smoking rooms are available.

Hotel & Spa Le Doge has a fine array of leisure facilities, especially for such a small property. Guests can get a massage, skin treatments, reflexology, and facial modeling at the full-service spa, though none are included with room rates. The hotel also has a hammam steam room, sauna, and hot tub. The fitness room is limited, with only a few pieces of cardio equipment. The fine-dining restaurant serves a la carte and buffet breakfasts, lunch, and dinner, and specializes in French cuisine with Moroccan accents using local and seasonal ingredients. Breakfast isn't included in the room rate. Adjacent to the restaurant is a gracious library bar. The hotel also has a meeting room, business center, concierge service, bell service, and fifth-floor terrace with garden and view of Ligue Arab Park. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and private car services can be arranged. Though couples make up most of the guests, babysitting services are available for families.
