Bottom Line

Unlike other luxury hotels in the Cascais area, the 143-room Sheraton Cascais Resort is a ways from the ocean -- but within easy reach of several golf courses. The hotel does feature a large outdoor pool, however, as well as a fitness center and a spa with a hydrotherapy pool. The tasty on-site restaurant has a terrace and glass ceiling, but it's a popular spot so there can be a wait for a table. The nearby Hotel Cascais Miragem often has higher rates, but it has a slightly more upscale feel and is closer to the beach.

Sheraton Cascais Resort

Scene

Next to a well-known golf course, with a modern, eclectic interior

Sheraton Cascais Resort sits next door to the Quinta da Marinha golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.. The course has views of the Atlantic Ocean while the hotel itself has a spacious lobby, renovated after our visit, with tall, windowed walls, white columns, and handsome couches and chairs in muted tones. A modern chandelier serves as the centerpiece.

Families can play in the huge outdoor pool surrounded by pine trees and a grassy landscape, but when it comes to the indoor spa, children under the age of 14 aren’t allowed in the hydrotherapy pool. With numerous amenities -- including several meeting rooms -- the hotel attracts leisure and business travelers, as well as families.

Guincho Beach is a short distance away by car, while getting to Lisbon requires a half-hour drive. A significantly shorter drive will take visitors to Cascais’ town center, where there are a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars.
