Bottom Line

The mid-range 4R Salou Park Resort I is a large, all-inclusive property with a vibrant setting just a few minutes' walk from the beach. Several restaurants and bars are within a short walk, and more are in the town center, a 10-minutes walk away. The 218 rooms are bright and clean, and some have furnished balconies with sea views, but mini-fridges and safes require fees. Guests have access to the 4R Salou Park Resort II next door, and amenities on-site include an outdoor pool that gazes out to sea, a children's pool, kids' club, and playground. A gastropub and buffet restaurant are on-site, and nightly entertainment includes flamenco dancers. Guests have complained of noise from within and outside the hotel. The 4R Regina Gran Hotel is farther from the beach, but has a quieter atmosphere.

4R Salou Park Resort I

Scene

Family-friendly all-inclusive with simply decorated interiors

4R Salou Park Resort I occupies one of two seven-story white buildings (the next door 4R Salou Park Resort II occupies the other) that don't stray from the seaside all-inclusive mold. Vast interiors are filled with natural light and a mix of contemporary and dated furniture. The lobby, for instance, has sleek gray marble floors, frosted green glass, and red and black armchairs. While the space feels a bit like a sanitized airport lounge, it serves its purpose for the hundreds of guests (mostly families with kids, and couples of various ages) who stay here. The vibe is far more relaxed out by the pools, which face the sea and are surrounded by loungers on an expansive stone patio. Restaurants and bars are also simply decorated and purely functional, but there's plenty of natural light to remind guests of the beautiful scenery outdoors.

Location

A few minutes from the sand in Salou

4R Salou Park sits in a bustling part of Salou, a town on the Costa Dorada of Catalonia's Tarragona region. The beach is only a few minutes' walk from the property, and several restaurants and bars are also within a quick walk. For guests wanting more options, it's about 10 minutes on foot (or a few minutes' drive) to the town center with lots more restaurants, bars, and nightlife. Many families and tourists come here to visit PortAventura World, a theme park located eight minutes from the hotel by car. The property is also about a 20-minute drive from the coastal town of Cambrils, known for its seafood and gastronomy, and 15 minutes from Gaudi's birthplace of Reus and the ancient Roman ruins of Tarraco. Barcelona and its airport are about 80 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Mostly contemporary and clean, many with sea-view balconies

Rooms and suites at the 4R Salou Park Resort I are contemporary and clean, with decor in shades of blue and brown. Soft-blue or olive-green accent walls and gray tile or wood-laminate floors are pleasant, though the coordinating striped bedspreads and curtains date the spaces a bit. There are few decorative details, but the framed coastal-themed artworks are pleasant touches. Many rooms have balconies with views of the sea, while others overlook the pool. Bathrooms are attractive and modern, outfitted with gray tile and glass-door showers. Wall-mounted hairdryers and toiletries are provided. Suites have larger balconies with sunbeds, and spacious bathrooms with rainfall showerheads. Flat-screen TVs are available, but guests have to pay to use the mini-fridges and safes. Wi-Fi is free, but faster service incurs a fee. Some guests have reported noise from hallways and outside.
