Bottom Line

The 246-room H TOP Molinos Park is a basic, budget hotel located in Cap Salou, a five-minute walk from Cala de la Font Beach. One of the area's cheapest hotels, guests get what they've paid for -- rooms are dated, walls are thin, kids run rampant, and food is lackluster. Open only from April to October, the property has outdoor pools that are popular with families, while the adults-only rooftop hot tub is a (boozy) haven for older guests. Guests desiring a quieter, more modern atmosphere should consider the 4R Regina Gran Hotel, with its downtown Salou location.

H·TOP Molinos Park

Scene

Budget hotel with tired style and a boisterous atmosphere

The H TOP Molinos Park is the embodiment of a budget hotel, without many redeeming graces. On a superficial level alone, almost every space here has seen better days, including the spacious, open lobby with a bit of brown leather seating and unattractive pink and green marble accents. Salmon-colored furnishings are set throughout the bar (alongside beat-up arcade games like air hockey), adding to the property's dated vibe, while the dining room has the feel of a cafeteria, despite the white table cloths. The atmosphere is nothing to rave about either -- expect packs of screaming kids, adults getting boozy, and crowded spaces from the pool to the hot tubs. And yet, this hotel draws holiday-makers from the U.K. and Russia in droves. Guests are mostly here because of the hotel's budget rates and all-inclusive packages, and include families with young kids, couples, and groups of (boisterous) friends.

In hilly Cap Salou, a five-minute walk to Cala de la Font Beach

The H TOP Molinos Park is in a hilly area outside of central Salou known as Cap Salou. It's a five-minute walk from public transportation and Cala de la Font Beach. There isn't much else within walking distance and guests should consider a rental car in order to see anything in the area. Many sights are within a 10-minute drive, including Aquopolis and PortAventura theme park. The bars and nightclubs of downtown Salou will take 10 minutes to reach by car as well, as will Salou's main beach, Levante Beach. Historic Tarragona and Reus Airport are both around 20 minutes away by car, while Barcelona-El Prat Airport is a one-hour drive form the hotel. Barcelona’s city center takes about 80 minutes to reach by road.

Rooms

Basic and dated rooms with terraces

Much like the hotel's public areas, the rooms are uninspiring and basic, with dated decor that includes unattractive granite flooring, patterned bedspreads, and mundane landscape art. There are some nice hardwood pieces in rooms, including a fairly ornate carved headboard, but overall rooms are unimpressive. Air-conditioning and tube-style TVs are in all rooms, as are terraces with plastic furniture; some have nice sea views. Safes cost extra, and with the hotel's loud atmosphere, thin walls can be an issue. Additionally, furniture has wear marks and stains. Red granite countertops stand out against light tile in the otherwise bland bathrooms, with shower/tub combos and generic toiletries provided. There is a charge for in-room Wi-Fi.

Features

Outdoor pools plus kid-friendly extras and adults-only rooftop terrace

Many kids and families frequent the long, rectangular outdoor pool as well as the round kids' pool with a tile dolphin design. Trees and shrubs surround both areas, and plenty of lounge chairs are provided. There is an adults-only terrace on the roof with sea views plus two hot tubs. The area can get boozy, though, as there is an adjacent bar serving cocktails, slushies, beer, and snacks. The buffet serves international options, though quality isn't great, while the on-site bar has cocktails and beer. All-inclusive packages are available and include three meals per day, snacks, nonalcoholic drinks, and free rental bikes. Additionally, all-inclusive guests can use the facilities of sister hotels, but need reservations and some hotels are excluded. Kid-friendly amenities include the free kids' club and outdoor playground plus a game room with computers, air hockey, and pool tables. Live entertainment occurs throughout the day as well. This hotel is closed from November to March, and Wi-Fi and parking cost extra.
