Bottom Line

This budget hotel, with 208 rooms, offers a good deal for the price, but some repeat problems may surface including general noise, poor levels of room cleanliness, and pesky extra charges for amenities such as Wi-Fi and use of in-room fridges. The building itself is a '70s-era construction, located in downtown Platja d’Aro; the decor in both the common areas and the individual rooms is not far from this dated aesthetic. An outdoor pool, pool bar, and some other amenities like an internet terminal in the lobby, a children’s play room, and plenty of meeting spaces draw budget-conscious families and business travelers.

Oyster Hotel Review

H·TOP Platja Park

Scene

This relatively large hotel gets crowded with families, as well as conferences and groups.

Noise can reach surprising levels at this hotel, perhaps in part because of the layout of the property, which consists of a U-shaped courtyard created by long, five-story buildings surrounding the pool on three sides and facing the sea. The hallways -- and even the lobby -- have a rather aseptic, dated feel, lined as they are with granite-pattern linoleum and slightly tired wicker chairs. Because of its proximity to a nearby conference center, it is a frequent destination for meetings and business trips.

Location

A 12-minute walk to the city beach; adjacent to the Congress Palace Platja D'aro

The hotel is well-situated for tourists in the heart of downtown; the city beach is a short stroll away and there are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The Girona airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel; a series of private buses link the airport and the town (about two hours each way).

Rooms

As dated as the property’s '70s architecture

Guest rooms have tiny, outdated TVs and somewhat jarring floral wallpaper. While the bathrooms are small and the bedding could use an update, the rooms are spacious enough, with desks and large bathrooms which are handsomely tiled in slate gray and have shower/tub combos. All rooms have AC; many overlook the pool, which may be loud.

Features

An outdoor pool with an adjacent pool bar, an internet terminal in the lobby, and a large, dated fitness center

There are several large meeting areas that cater the business set, as well as a large basement fitness center, mostly filled with dated weight machines and a few cardio machines; and an outdoor pool, which some have mentioned may be small for the number of guests that are often clustered around it. There is also a separate children’s play room adjacent to the lobby, and a reading area with magazines available.
