Bottom Line

Hotel Anabel is a mid-range hotel located within walking distance both of the beach and the city center. Featuring contemporary decor, a solid spa, an appealing pool area, and a quality buffet restaurant, the hotel is a welcome departure from the many dated all-inclusive properties in Lloret. Scene

A family-run hotel with solid amenities

First open in 1970 by the same family that still runs it today, Hotel Anabel has transitioned smoothly into the 21st century. The property offers a friendly atmosphere and modern amenities, such as a spa, a fitness center, flat-screen TVs in all rooms, and free Wi-Fi. Extensive renovations in 2010 brought upgraded features both to rooms and to common spaces, with new furniture in the majority of units, more contemporary decor, and nicer bathrooms. Hallways and rooms have kept the old-fashioned gray terrazzo floors -- very popular in the mid-20th century in Spain -- but the rest of the public areas are contemporary and well appointed. The lobby, for instance, is bright and mostly stylish, with white couches, cream-colored floors, a few wood accents, and lots of plants. In short, this hotel is a breath of fresh air in a town known for being home to many cheap, dated hotels advertised with at least one star too many.

Location

Blocks from the beach and the city center

Hotel Anabel is located in a central but quiet part of Lloret. The main tourist and nightlife area -- where guests can find many restaurants, bars and shops -- is just a short walk from the property, and the town’s main beach is a five-minute walk away. Those looking for a somewhat quieter stretch of sand in Lloret may want to check out Fenals Beach, located a five-minute drive away. Girona-Costa Brava Airport, served mostly by low-cost airlines, is a 25-minute drive away. Barcelona can be reached by car in just under an hour.

Rooms

Spacious, clean and bright, with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges

The property features 240 spacious, bright rooms with furnished balconies, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. Most rooms were last renovated in 2010, and feature beach-y blue and white decor in walls and bedclothes, and black wooden furniture. Bathrooms are clean and perfectly adequate -- but while some feature updated fixtures and tiling, others feel a little older. Family Rooms feature two double beds, and can sleep up to two adults and two kids. Cots are available free of charge upon request -- but there is a fee for use of the in-room safe. Some guests have complained of lacking soundproofing.

Features

A quality buffet, a pleasant pool, and a nice spa complete with a heated pool

The hotel features a bright restaurant serving a quality buffet with gluten-free options and a kids’ menu. The laminate floor, white and brown furniture, and colorful placemats make for a generic but attractive contemporary space. The Anabel is a solid pick for families, as it features a number of amenities for kids, such as a seasonal club with activities, an arcade, a playground, a game room with a Wii, and a wading pool. The main pool area has lots of sun beds, free towel service, and a lounge area with umbrellas where guests can enjoy a drink or a bite from the bar. The spa is clean and bright, and features a heated pool, two whirlpools, a sauna, and a steam room. There is a fee for parking and for use of the fitness center. A fully equipped meeting room with coffee service is also available.
