The 230-room MedPlaya Piramide Salou is a mid-range hotel located a 10-minute walk from the beach and multiple eateries. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style in the hotel’s restaurant, while drinks and light snacks are available at both the main and poolside bar. Half-board up to all-inclusive packages are available. Rooms are spacious and bright thanks to sliding glass doors that lead to balconies, but they have some wear and occasional maintenance issues. Health facilities are absent here, but there's a large and attractive outdoor pool with a separate kiddy pool. A playground and children’s entertainment during high season make this hotel suitable for families. It's worth checking out the H10 Mediterranean Village, which has a ton more in terms of features.
Scene
An uncomplicated all-inclusive hotel with an attractive pool but dated decor
The MedPlaya Pyramide Salou attracts a mixed crowd of Spanish and English tourists, all of whom are looking for uncomplicated fun in the sun. The hotel’s lofty lobby, lit by a glass atrium, feels more like an the entrance to an office block than a hotel, with marble floors, nondescript light-wood fittings, and generic artwork on the walls. The restaurant is similarly anonymous and dated, housed in a large and low-ceilinged room into which little natural light penetrates. Rows of white tablecloths and folded napkins are paired with plastic chairs. The Fun Pub is decorated with a curious Egyptian mural on one wall, and tired bentwood furniture. Outside, on the other hand, is a large and attractive mosaic-tiled pool, which curves around the building and sits opposite a covered bar. The pool and its bar are set in a large brick terrace and bordered by shrubs and trees.
Location
To the north of Salou, 10 minutes on foot from the beach
Located outside of Salou’s center, the MedPlaya Pyramide Salou is a five- to 10-minute walk to the town’s shops, bars, and restaurants, and a 10-minute walk to the beach. Those who are looking for family-friendly thrills can find PortAventura theme park a seven-minute drive away. Expect airport transfers to take roughly 35 minutes to Reus Airport by car, and between 60 and 90 minutes to Barcelona-El Prat.
Rooms
Basic and utilitarian rooms with comfortable mattresses
The rooms in the MedPlaya Pyramide Salou are utilitarian and basic, but nonetheless get the job done. They're decorated with white and blue accent walls, laminate wood furniture, baby-blue curtains, and blue-and-brown striped bed runners. Faded prints of artwork hang on the walls for some additional decoration. Beds reportedly have comfy mattresses, and other furnishings include bedside tables, a desk and leather-cushioned chair, free safe and Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TV with few English-language channels, and minibar stocked with a few welcome cans of beer and soft drinks. Bathrooms are also in need of a refresh, as they have the same brown, marble-effect tiles found in the bedrooms, and are equipped with a shower/tub combo, bidet, and hairdryer. Each room has its own balcony with patio furniture.
Features
Swimming pool and adjacent bar, and buffet meals wth meal-plan options
The MedPlaya Piramide Salou offers a sufficient list of features, with the standout being its sizable and attractive freeform outdoor pool. There are an adjacent kiddy pool and plenty of sun loungers, but only a couple of umbrellas. The terrace can easily crowd and become noisy during high season, however. A small game room with pool, foosball, and air-hockey tables, as well as a number of retro arcade machines is available, as are an outdoor playground and nightly entertainment. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast and dinner, with show cooking during the latter. Half- and full-board, and all-inclusive packages are available, but quality of the food gets mixed reviews. Drinks and light snacks are served at the hotel’s two bars, the poolside bar, and the Fun Pub. A downside for health buffs, there are no gym or wellness facilities. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
