Bottom Line

This cozy, five-room bed and breakfast feels like staying at a friend’s home -- rooms are small but charming; guests have access to a well-equipped communal kitchen and a living room, and a couple of rooms share a large, clean bathroom. Perks here include free Wi-Fi and free breakfast, and the Fisk is the only B&B in Delaware County that offers an in-ground pool (open seasonally). There’s not much within walking distance, but restaurants, stores and a wide array of outdoor activities can be found just a short drive away.

Fisk House B&B

Scene

A charming B&B with five basic but cozy rooms

First built in the 1900’s as a farmhouse and then turned into a private home for an elderly woman, the building that now houses the Fisk was badly damaged in a fire a few years ago. Today, the building is good as new, with bright colored walls, polished wooden floors, and a cute yard. The charming couple that owns the B&B has put a lot of attention to detail into it, and there are many small touches that set this inn apart. For instance, in the communal kitchen there are two single-cup Keurig machines instead of standard drip coffeemakers; there are no in-room minibars, but there’s always free bottled water both in the kitchen and in the rooms, and there’s always a fresh breakfast ready in the morning.

While kids are mostly welcome (check with the owners before booking), the vibe here is quiet and relaxing, and adults will probably find it more appealing than children. However, the Fisk is the only B&B in Delaware County that has an outdoor in-ground pool, which families may appreciate.

The antiques store across the street is worth a visit.

Location

Located between the quaint towns of Delhi and Andes, a short drive to dining, shopping and outdoor activities

The Fisk House is located outside the town of Delhi, in the western Castkill region. The house is on a small street off Road 28. Across the street is the antiques store -- which is owned by the same couple who runs the property -- and a couple of other homes, but beyond that the area is mostly rural. The nearest towns are Bovina, Delhi and Andes, and they all offer several dining and shopping options. However, the most interesting town in the area is probably Delhi, which is home to the SUNY campus and has interesting stores, a couple of cute cafes, and an overall quaint feel to it.

Outdoors activities abound in the area, and there are dozens of hiking and biking trails in the region. During the winter months, the most popular activity is downhill skiing and snowboarding, but there are also many trails great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. There’s little nightlife in the area, but the Andes Hotel, located a 10-minute drive from the Fisk, is a popular spot among locals.

  • 10-minute drive to Bovina, Delhi and Andes towns
  • 10-minute drive to SUNY Delhi campus
  • 25-minute drive to Margaretville
  • 30-minute drive to the Hanford Mills Museum
  • 35-minute drive to Belleayre Ski Resort
  • 45-minute drive to Platekill Mountain Ski Resort
  • 1-hour drive to Woodstock
  • 1-hour-25-minute drive to Saugerties
  • 1-hour-50-minutes to Albany
  • 2-hour-40-minute drive to New York City

Rooms

Small but cute, and with tons of natural light

There are only five rooms in this bed and breakfast, all of which are more or less the same size and offer the same amenities. While the common areas are all on the first floor, the sleeping quarters are upstairs, which allows for a quieter night when other guests are using the living or dining rooms. Rooms are small and basic, with only a small flat-screen TV and a large closet in the way of amenities, but they’re all painted in different colors, have wooden floors, feature unique decor, and are quite charming. However, note that three out of the five rooms share a bathroom in the hallway (but it is always kept clean and tidy).

  • Flat-screen TVs
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Free bottled water
  • Two of the rooms have their own en-suite bathroom.
  • Shared bathroom features a shower/tub combo and natural light
