Bottom Line

Creekside Lands Inn is a budget hotel located by Long Branch Creek and within a 30-minute drive of historic downtown Charleston. The hotel has an outdoor pool, barbecue grills, and a long dock over the creek with a pretty gazebo where guests can fish, crab, or just take in the view. The 55 rooms are small and simply furnished, though tired, worn, and in need of an update. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate and parking and Wi-Fi are also free. Travelers seeking a budget option closer to town may want to consider Charleston's NotSo Hostel, a homey hostel in Charleston's historic downtown.

Creekside Lands Inn

Scene

Budget motel-style inn near a pretty creek

Creekside Lands Inn is a two-story, brick building with motel-style outdoor hallways. The small lobby is bright and modern with a large flat-screen TV, big windows, and a fireplace. The open-plan layout of the space means that the front desk is right by the breakfast area, which is filled with a couple of round tables and banquette seating. The surrounding grounds are filled with tall trees covered with Spanish moss and grassy lawns on the banks of the peaceful creek. A wooden dock culminates in a lovely gazebo out on the water with a table and wrought-iron chairs. Guests can also relax on the stone patio by the pool, which has barbecue grills and several tables surrounded by wicker chairs.

Location

Located off a busy highway about 30 minutes from Charleston’s historic attractions

The hotel is located along the heavily congested Savannah Highway. There are plenty of restaurants along the highway including a Waffle House, Ruby Tuesday, and Red Lobster, which are all within a five-minute drive, though there is not much within walking distance of the property. Attractions in downtown Charleston like Aquarium Wharf and City Market are within a 30-minute drive, and the airport is a 20 minutes away.

Rooms

Simple rooms with worn furnishings and amenities like flat-screen TVs with HBO

Rooms at the hotel are fairly basic and simply furnished with carpeted floors, wooden headboards, and work desks. Decor is dated and furnishings show signs of wear and tear including stained carpets and poor paint jobs. Small windows look out over the shaded outdoor hallway, so the spaces don't get much natural light. Rooms are equipped with a handful of modern comforts, however, like flat-screen TVs with HBO and free (though spotty) Wi-Fi. Most have coffee- and tea-making facilities, microwaves, and mini-fridges as well. Bathrooms are also in need of an update, especially the water-damaged ceiling tiles, but sinks with large vanities are a nice detail and are conveniently located in a separate area outside of the bathroom. Bathrooms have standard shower/tub combos and small toiletry kits are provided.

Features

Free continental breakfast in modern room and pretty outdoor areas including a dock and patio with barbecues

Perhaps the best feature of the hotel are its pretty grounds on the banks of a creek: guests can fish or crab off the long dock, and there is also a lovely sitting area in the gazebo at its end. Barbecue grills are available on the outdoor patio, which has seating areas as well, and there's also a small outdoor pool surrounded by lounge chairs. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate and served in the small breakfast room by the front desk, and guests can also read magazines or watch TV in the sunlit lobby which has a fireplace. Parking and Wi-Fi are free, though the signal is spotty.
