Bottom Line

The 105-room Town & Country Inn and Suites is a mid-range property located on a highway about halfway between the airport and downtown Charleston. A casual place, the property fits the bill for families and couples looking for a relatively convenient location outside of the city. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and excellent bathrooms that have separate tubs and showers. Features include an outdoor pool, a small gym, and a restaurant serving traditional Southern fare. Guests that want a few more features and to be downtown might prefer the Elliott House Inn, which has loaner bikes, free breakfast, and wine and cheese receptions for moderately higher rates.

Town & Country Inn and Suites

Scene

Casual, contemporary decor at this three-pearl hotel

Town & Country Inn and Suites is a simple, contemporary property suited to tourist families and couples that don't mind being removed from downtown Charleston. The sage-green and brick building might be more attractive were it not sitting on a highway and in a barren-looking parking lot. Still, there are some colorful flowers around the front entrance, and things feel considerably more upbeat inside the lobby. There are lots of windows for natural light, and the polished wood floors and soft-gray sofas make for a pleasant spot to wait for check-in. The restaurant is a low-key but pleasant area with dark-wood dining sets on top of brown swirl-patterned carpeting. Most guests are either hanging out around the well-maintained pool area, or out exploring Charleston.

Location

On the highway, outside of Charleston

The Inn is located on very busy Savannah Highway, near many other hotels as well as local eateries and fast-food restaurants. It's a good location for guests wanting to be within a half-hour drive of the area beaches and a decent drive from the historic downtown of Charlestown (20 minutes). South Carolina Aquarium is a 25-minute drive, as is the historic City Market -- a popular shopping spot for souvenirs. It's worth noting that Savannah Highway can take a bit of time to navigate during rush hour. Charleston International Airport is a 10- to 15-minute drive from the property.
