In addition to a gym, it has a brasserie and two bar areas, as well as two conference rooms. Located within the old city walls and across the street from the famous Chester racecourse, the hotel is close to the major sights of Chester, and to transit links to Liverpool and London. Unmatched in the city for its size and modernity, the Abode Chester remains one of Chester's finest hotels.

Contemporary, playful design is the focus
The Abode Chester, built from the ground up on the site of the former Cheshire Constabulary headquarters, has paid attention to the details. The public areas, such as the Lounge Bar (renovated after our visit), have mid-century furniture and contemporary lighting that give them a stylish feel. The rooms are open-concept and airy, and have hardwood floors and bright retro-style furniture that seens to pop. Quality furnishings and modern art add a touch of class to the surroundings, and also maximize space and comfort. The hotel's almost playful concentration on quality, style, and design distinguish it from other hotels in Chester -- the Abode just feels different.

Situated across the street from Chester Racecourse, England's oldest horse racetrack, the Abode is popular with the enthusiastic weekend race crowd during the spring and summer months. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk to the city center and the Chester train station, with connections to London Euston, Manchester, Wales, and the Liverpool city center, and about a 15-minute drive to the Chester Zoo.

Rooms at the Abode Chester, including three suites with private balconies, break with tradition, with spaces that feel more open-concept and accessible, and have a boutique feel. Instead of the traditional bedroom/bathroom layout, some rooms have a designer bathtub right behind the bed, or in an open area next to the bed -- a playful rethink of the traditional room layout. All rooms have coffee- and tea-making facilities, robes, slippers, toiletries, digital temperature controls, flat-screen TVs with HDMI connections, and DVD players.

The Abode has a gym with up-to-date exercise equipment, including treadmills, cycles, and cross-trainers. It also has Brasserie Abode, added in 2017, which serves classic comfort food from a space on the fifth floor offering excellent views. Two bar areas: one within the brasserie and one off the lobby, serve spirits, wines, and cocktails, as well as afternoon tea. In keeping with the rest of the hotel, the spaces are open concept and relaxed, with mid-century modern furniture and contemporary lighting. The two business conference rooms are tech-friendly, with projectors and USB/HDMI compatible devices.
